NAMI Metro Suburban is seeking a motivated and mission-driven Youth Employment Specialist to support youth and young adults (ages 16–24) in accessing meaningful employment opportunities. Reporting to the Director of Workforce Development and Employment services, the Youth Employment Specialist will play a key role in participant recruitment, job placement, career development, and community outreach.

This position will actively support youth experiencing mental health challenges in building the skills and confidence needed to succeed in the workforce. The ideal candidate brings strong interpersonal skills, a passion for youth development, and a commitment to helping participants achieve personal and professional growth.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Delivery & Career Development

  • Recruit and engage youth participants ages through community outreach and referrals.
  • Facilitate group and individual job readiness training (e.g., resume writing, mock interviews, soft skills).
  • Assist participants in developing employment goals and individualized career plans.
  • Provide direct support through job search, placement, onboarding, and retention.
  • Conduct workshops and assist youth in completing vocational assessments and eligibility documentation.
  • Assist in job placement for youth participants

Employer & Community Engagement

  • Cultivate relationships with local employers to develop job, internship, and mentorship opportunities.
  • Collaborate with schools, community organizations, and workforce partners to grow referral networks.

Administrative & Team Collaboration

  • Enter and maintain timely case documentation using Apricot and Illinois WorkNet systems.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date participant files and progress notes.
  • Participate in training and support broader workforce and organizational initiatives as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Services, Psychology, Education, Business or related field required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with youth (16–24), preferably in workforce development or mental health.
  • Demonstrated skills in participant engagement, job placement, and career coaching.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and proof of auto insurance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care and youth development frameworks.
  • Experience with individuals navigating mental health challenges and systemic employment barriers.
  • Knowledge of Chicagoland and West Suburban employer networks and workforce development landscape.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 per year
