Role Description
Reporting to the RCO Manager, the Peer Specialist is responsible for providing non-clinical, evidence-based support services for NAMI’s Recovery Community Organization (RCO) serving Manatee County. The RCO is a peer-led recovery support and harm-reduction service offered to individuals impacted by substance use disorders (SUD). The program will be designed to increase engagement in recovery support, reduce overdose risk, improve access to treatment and housing, and promote long-term stability for individuals and families in Manatee County. The main responsibility is to adhere to the mission statement of NAMI Sarasota and Manatee Counties – to improve the lives of individuals with mental illness, as well as the lives of their families and caregivers, through support, education, awareness, and advocacy. Tasks performed as a Peer Specialist focus on assisting individuals with wellness, promoting recovery, and supporting whole health.
The first three to nine months of the RCO are designed to engage individuals not currently connected to services at locations such as jails, transitional housing, recovery residences, treatment facilities, and community events, providing recovery education, resource navigation, and warm handoffs to ca

Bachelor's Degree in a related field. In place of a degree, a High School Diploma/GED with a combination of at least two years of exp erience
- Lived Experience: Be a self-identified current or former user of mental health or co-occurring services as a minor or transitional age youth who can relate to transitional age youth who are now using those services
