The Program Manager is responsible for the overall day-to-day operations of the NAMI Greater Mississippi Valley (GMV) programs. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Program Manager will ensure that the programs of NAMI GMV run smoothly by overseeing many administrative tasks.

Essential Functions

· Recruit, train and supervise all volunteer leaders.

· Complete all program reporting as needed on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis to fulfill grants and requirements of NAMI Iowa, NAMI Illinois and NAMI National.

· Evaluate the programs on a regular basis, ensuring fidelity to the National NAMI standards.

· Attend and audit classes, seminars and support groups as needed to ensure high quality programs are occurring

· Search out new partners, organizations and locations to conduct training or to host seminars/classes with.

· Send communications to volunteers, participants and partners, and utilize social media to publicize the program events.

· Coordinate all tabling events, manage travel bags, and the resources to be shared.

· Plan and host all quarterly volunteer meetings.

· Develop and implement a formal “Volunteer Recognition” program.

· Keep an updated roster of volunteers, their contact info, their certifications, and the minimum training they have to complete to stay in compliance with NAMI National standards.

· Provide support to the Trauma Informed Care Program Coordinator as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of severe and long-term mental illness. Knowledge of and appreciation for the special concerns and problems of those with mental illness and their families and caregivers.
  • High level of proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications, including Publisher, Excel and Access. Must be willing to learn NEON CRM system thoroughly.
  • Experience with desktop publishing, WordPress website maintenance, and email marketing software a plus!

· As the front-line staff person for initial inquiries from persons who may be in crisis, it is important to understand and differentiate NAMI’s role in providing information and resources, and not cross boundaries into counseling or social work.

· This role requires a high degree of empathy, the ability to listen and communicate simply and quickly with persons who may be experiencing trauma.

Position type and expected hours of work

This is a full-time, exempt position that offers full benefits. Minimal local travel is required. Occasional weeknight or weekend duties may be required.

Required Education and Experience

NAMI GMV looks for an experienced administrative professional with at least five years of experience, ideally with a local nonprofit advocacy organization as a Program Coordinator or Program Manager. A high school diploma with at least two years additional education or training is required; a college degree is preferred. A valid driver’s license and dependable vehicle are required.

· Use of hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms – Approximately 2/3 of on-the-job time in the use of computer, phone, handling files, documentation, etc.

· Talking or hearing – Approximately greater than 2/3 of on-the-job time.

· Weight lifted/Force exerted – An average of approximately (5-25) pounds, 1/3 of on-the-job time, non-continuously.

· Vision – Close, distance, color, peripheral and depth perception for use of computers and color-coded files.

· Environmental – There is little to no exposure to hazardous environmental conditions.

· Noise – Moderate noise level in execution of duties due to business office with computers, printers and light traffic, meeting attendance and participation in office activities.
