Company Description NAMI DuPage is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit mental health organization founded in 1985 and dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals and families in DuPage County affected by mental illness. The organization provides a wide range of free support services, including support groups, peer counseling, drop-in centers, social and recreation programs, job preparedness, and a support and resource hotline. NAMI DuPage also leads community education and outreach efforts, partnering with local hospitals and training law enforcement, educators, faith communities, and other community stakeholders to increase understanding of mental health. Its mission-driven work emphasizes support, advocacy, and education to reduce stigma and promote recovery and inclusion.

Role Description The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is a full-time, on-site role based in Wheaton, IL, responsible for providing strategic, operational, and visionary leadership to NAMI DuPage. The CEO oversees day-to-day operations, including program delivery, financial management, development activities, human resources, and facilities management, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and values. This role leads and supports a diverse team of staff and volunteers, fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and trauma-informed culture that centers the experiences of individuals and families affected by mental illness. The CEO works closely with the Board of Directors to develop and implement strategic plans, annual goals, and policies, and provides regular updates on organizational performance and impact. The CEO also serves as the primary external representative, building strong relationships with community partners, donors, healthcare systems, public agencies, and other stakeholders to expand services, secure funding, and influence mental health advocacy across DuPage County.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations, including board relations, staff supervision, and organizational development.
  • Proficiency in Finance and Operations Management, with the ability to oversee budgets, financial reporting, compliance, and efficient program operations.
  • Experience with Strategic Planning and Business Planning, including setting organizational priorities, managing change, and evaluating impact.
  • Background in fundraising, development, or revenue-generating strategies, with a track record of cultivating donors, sponsors, and community partners.
  • Strong communication, public speaking, and advocacy skills, with the ability to represent the organization effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Knowledge of mental health issues, community-based services, and/or lived or professional experience in behavioral health is highly beneficial.
  • Ability to build inclusive, culturally responsive programs and work respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds and identities.
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.
