Position Overview
A Process Engineer will have at least two years post-graduation experience working in the lab or MS/PhD degree in Chemical Engineering with a strong emphasis in process engineering. A Process Engineer will be part of a team responsible for the synthesis, development and analysis of novel materials and/or crystallization processes. A Process Engineer is experienced in the operation of automated lab reactors (e.g., EasyMax) and process analytical tools (e.g., IR, Raman, FBRM) and is proficient with MT suite of hardware and software. A Process Engineer is efficient with data processing and reporting including mass and energy balances, reaction kinetics, crystallization and understands sources of experimental error. A Process Engineer will work with senior scientists to discuss data, recognize erroneous and/or unexpected results, interpret and analyze those results, and make recommendations based on their own analysis and conclusions. A Process Engineer will demonstrate good technical writing skills and present results both internally to the Nalas team and to support technical leads during external presentations. It is critical a Process Engineer understands aspects of project management, demonstrating an excellent understanding of timeline and budget. A Process Engineer is expected to always operate in a safe and efficient manner, with a mindset and behavior that reinforces the Nalas Quality culture, ensuring Nalas services meet or exceed customer needs.
A Process Engineer helps maintain the laboratory and will setup complex equipment to use in experiments. A Process Engineer works with minimal guidance from senior mentors and management and reliably conducts and analyzes experiments to makes recommendations based on their own conclusions.
Position Requirements
Qualifications and skills
· Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering (2 years' experience) or MS/PhD degree in Chemical Engineering with strong emphasis in the related discipline.
· Good knowledge of analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving techniques necessary to perform scientific/engineering work.
· Proficient in generating and manipulating data, as well as computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and SciFinder.
· Desired but not required: familiar with software packages such as Aspen, Dynochem, COMSOL, COSMOTherm, MATLAB, DesignExpert etc.
· Self-motivated and results orientated.
· Good interpersonal, communication, organizational, teamwork and time management skills are essential.
Customer-Facing Contributions
· Demonstrate good technical writing skills.
· Effectively communicate experimental results in report.
· Present internally with minimal guidance and feedback.
· Present experimental results and observations to support technical leads during external updates.

· HAZARDOUS DUTY: Incumbent is regularly exposed to the hazard of chemical and explosive ingredients. The danger inherent in this type of work cannot be completely eliminated by established SOP's and/or safety equipment. Incumbent may be responsible for hazardous and universal waste collection, consolidation, segregation, and proper storage and labeling. Incumbent may be responsible for performing emergency response activities, emergency response clean-up, hazardous waste clean-up, and the handling of hazardous waste materials when training is provided.
· Security and Background Requirements: If not previously completed, a background security investigation will be required for all appointees. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements may be grounds for appropriate personnel action. In addition, if hired, a background security reinvestigation or supplemental investigation may be required at a later time.
