Job Description: The Legal division of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) has an exciting opportunity for a Paralegal. This position supports attorneys by conducting legal research on state and federal statutes, pending legislation, administrative regulations, regulatory guidance, NAIC proceedings, and case law, with a strong focus on tracking state legislation and maintaining 50-state charts for publication. This is a full-time hybrid position, in a positive and flexible environment. Residency within 100 miles of the Kansas City, Missouri office is required. Position Overview Assist attorneys with general legal research involving state and federal statutes, pending legislation, administrative regulations, regulatory guidance, NAIC proceedings and case law, with a heavy focus on tracking state legislation and updating 50-state charts for publication. Key Responsibilities Perform state statutory and legislative research. Track pending and adopted legislation, regulations, and case law in state insurance regulation. Assist in the preparation of legal publications for use by the insurance industry and state regulators. Assist in the contract review routing process and approval of simple contracts. Provide support for NAIC and Legal division meetings, prepare agendas, and draft minutes. Management Responsibilities This position does not have direct reports. Education, Certifications, Licenses, & Experience Paralegal degree or certificate required. 0-3 years relevant work experience. Systems & Technology Requirements Microsoft Office Suite, Westlaw, Nexus and NILS Schedule: Hybrid While this position qualifies for a hybrid schedule, you may be required to come into the office for a minimum of one day each week plus for ongoing meetings, events or training. NAIC Executive approval must be granted if residing outside of a 100-mile radius from Kansas City, New York, or Washington DC. Travel Requirements This position does not require overnight business travel. Employees are responsible for their personal transportation to/from the home and office, including events, meetings, and training required by the NAIC. Compensation $25.29 - 30.76/hr, commensurate with education and experience.
