Responsibilities:
Litigation paralegals provide crucial support for attorneys in various stages and aspects of litigation in both federal and state courts. Responsibilities include:
- Proofreading, formatting, e-filing various court documents, including legal briefs and exhibits, in various federal and state courts.
- Drafting administrative court documents, such as notices of appearance, letter motions for extensions, attorney declarations of exhibits, applications for pro hac vice admissions, etc.
- Organizing and maintaining case files, including briefs, exhibits, discovery materials, transcripts, correspondence, and other documents and attorney work product.
- Preparing for hearings, depositions, arbitrations, and trials, including providing logistical support and coordinating with outside legal services vendors such as court reporters and trial techs.
- Conducting general and factual research, assisting with case law research and retrieval, and searching, reviewing, and summarizing court dockets and filings.
- Maintaining litigation calendar, and monitoring and computing deadlines based on court orders and rules.
This is a hybrid position with one day per week in the office.
Qualifications:
- 4-year bachelor's degree from an accredited academic institution required. 1-3 years of relevant experience, e.g., in an administrative or paralegal capacity at a small law firm, legal non-profit, or other office setting, preferred but not required.
- Proactive, motivated, and responsible: Personally invested in the quality of work. Maintains internal standard and accountability.
- Effective communication: Conveys information and ideas in a thoughtful, organized manner. Appropriately chooses between brevity and details based on context and audience.
- Attention to detail: Work product are seen by clients, opposing counsel, judges, the public. All tasks should be undertaken with diligence and care.
- Discretion and good judgment: Safeguards the firm's and clients' confidentiality. Familiar with cybersecurity best practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneDrive, required. Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat, Dropbox, Zoom, SharePoint, Westlaw, PACER, and Relativity preferred but not required.
Compensation:
- $65,000 to $75,000, commensurate with experience. In addition to base pay, this position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime pay at 1.5x base pay. Discretionary bonuses are typically given once or twice per year.
- 10 to 15 paid vacation / personal days, commensurate with experience.
- Benefits include: Employer-subsidized health, dental, and vision insurance, and 401(k) plan with eligibility after 6-month waiting period.
