Essential Functions

The Student Services Coordinator is responsible for providing student support in a manner that demonstrates a commitment to the College’s mission and its diverse student population. The Student Services Coordinator will provide academic advising, coordinate student life activities, enforce required policies, develop and implement retention strategies, and assist in the student disciplinary process.

Responsibilities

Student Advising and Counseling

  • Provide personal counseling to students as needed. Confer with faculty or staff regarding individual students when appropriate.
  • Provide support to students by determining and coordinating referrals to and support from other community agencies and resources when needed.
  • Mentor current college students in skills necessary for success in college, including time management, goal setting, and study strategies.
  • Provide academic advising to continuing students, assisting them with following academic degree plans. Serve as backup advisor for students when departmental faculty are not available.
  • Assist with new student orientation.
  • Assist students with return-planning (from leave of absence) and provide counseling to students who are placed on academic warning, probation or suspension.
  • Develop, revise and update individualized academic plans for students who do not meet satisfactory academic progress (SAP) requirements and assist students in identifying any potential impediments to academic success.
  • Prepare and present workshops on a variety of student success related topics as needed.

Student Retention and Engagement

  • Stay abreast of programs, resources, and other opportunities to aid in student retention. Assist in the planning, development and implementation of programs designed to encourage the success and retention of students.
  • Conduct on-going evaluation of support services. Create, disseminate, and collect student surveys aimed at providing feedback on program and/or students' needs. Utilize data to guide interventions and monitor effectiveness and student progress.
  • Monitor and support students' pace and academic progression toward degree or certificate completion and provide proactive counseling and timely interventions.
  • Participate in campus-wide student success initiatives designed to improve retention, persistence, and completion.
  • Communicate with students regularly using a variety of communication tools to promote progress and success.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with faculty and staff to support student success and retention.

Student Accountability and Judicial Affairs

  • Develop a thorough understanding of GTC policies, rules, and regulations, and help students navigate them.
  • Manage the review, investigation, and resolution of alleged violations of the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Ensure the integrity of the student disciplinary process by providing timely communication, protecting student rights, and upholding college policies and standards.
  • Coordinate and support the Disciplinary Committee and the Disciplinary Appeals Committee.
  • Develop and maintain procedures for administering the Student Code of Conduct and conducting hearings in alignment with institutional policy.
  • Prepare and issue sanction letters and ensure appropriate follow-up on sanctions.
  • Maintain accurate conduct records database and documentation; track sanctions and ensure compliance with recordkeeping requirements. Prepare reports as needed.

Student Affairs and Compliance

  • Assist with the coordination and facilitation of the institution's compliance to Title IX of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
  • Provide counseling to students seeking accommodation under ADA. Serve as a liaison between faculty and students. Manage and ensure delivery of reasonable accommodation.
  • Oversee the Student Council and related activities.
  • Assist with creating and obtaining content for the college’s social media accounts.
  • Track student communication, case notes, and strategic activities using a case management system.
  • Provide orientation and training to students on the use of computers equipment and academic technology.
  • Maintain working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, including Title IX and ensure alignment with institutional policies.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of institution-wide crime prevention and awareness programming for students and employees in compliance with the Clery Act and Violence Against Women Act.
  • Design and deliver (or coordinate delivery of) training, workshops, and campus-wide initiatives addressing topics such as personal safety, crime prevention, reporting procedures, consent, bystander intervention, and risk reduction.
  • Maintain documentation of programming, participation, and outcomes, and support the preparation of the Annual Security Report (ASR).
  • Complete all required training and professional development.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by an agency recognized by the US Department of Education with one year of related experience; or a combination of education and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties.
  • Must provide own transportation and possess valid driver’s license and maintain current vehicle registration and liability insurance
  • Must be proficient in operating a computer and experienced in Microsoft Office 365.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of FERPA, Title IX, federal regulations, ADA, and other applicable laws.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; define problems, college data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; and effectively present information to faculty, staff, college administration, advisory committees, and other college stakeholders.
  • Ability to mentally attend and visually concentrate on a significant amount of detailed work.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage effectively with students and colleagues.
  • Ability to interact professionally and tactfully with people of different levels of education, cultural backgrounds, and life experiences.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and be able to complete projects efficiently and independently.
  • Knowledge of Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Skill in operating a computer and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to operate a variety of office equipment.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly in English.
  • Must be able to function in a hectic work environment with occasional periods of high stress.
