Carnegie Mellon University’s department of Athletics is searching for an hourly, Part-Time Fitness Instructor in its recreational and fitness program. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by providing essential support by leading patrons in a group environment through a class format of fitness instruction designed to enhance overall fitness, strength & endurance, while ensuring safety for all participants. Seeking instructors qualified to instruct the following classes: yoga, strength, indoor cycling, Pilates and Zumba.
Your Core Responsibilities Will Include
- Instruct and lead participants in maintaining appropriate exercise techniques pertaining to fitness while evaluating ability of participants. Ensure safe environment. Demonstrates proper technique & form
- Maintain order and cleanliness of exercise space before, during, and after class. Ensure equipment functionality
- Maintain class roster and communicate effectively using our DSE software systems
- Other duties as assigned
You Should Demonstrate
- A passion for health and fitness
- The ability to have a flexible schedule, and be punctual and dependable
- Strong communication skills
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred
- 0-1 year of teaching/instruction experience required; 1-3 years of teaching experience preferred
- Accredited nationally recognized certification in the field of instruction required
- CPR/First AID/AED certification required
- A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
- Successful pre-employment background check
- Child Protection Clearances (Act 153)
- Sponsorship: Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States. CMU will not sponsor or take over the sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity. Carnegie Mellon is not a qualifying employer for the STEM OPT benefit: only the 12-month OPT may be used to work at Carnegie Mellon.
