ORGANIZATION

KIPP is a non-profit network of college-preparatory, public charter schools with a 20-year track record of preparing our students in educationally underserved communities for success in college and life. KIPP currently educates 80,000 students in 200 schools across the country, including Indianapolis. KIPP Indy Public Schools (KIPP Indy) was founded in 2004 with one class of fifth grade students and has grown to educate over 600 students across two schools. In the 2017-18 school year, KIPP Indy College Prep Middle will educate students in grades 6-8. Of the students that attend KIPP Indy, 95% qualify for free and reduced lunch, 94% are African American, and 20% receive special education services. We plan to grow KIPP Indy’s network to a total of five schools by 2021, ultimately reaching 2,500 students from grades kindergarten through twelfth in our community.

The vision at KIPP Indy College Prep Middle is that we will be the middle school of choice in Indianapolis by preparing our students to become exceptional leaders who make a positive impact in the world. To do this, we go above and beyond to prepare our students for college and life success through maintaining rigorous academic expectations and by placing an intent focus on character education and growth. We intentionally foster a culture where teaching excellence is deeply valued and we invest a tremendous amount of time and resources to cultivate continuous instructional improvement. Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Associate Director of Student Services (ADSS) is responsible for collaborating with other members of the student services team and School Leaders to oversee the implementation of a powerful cultural vision for the students, staff, and families of KIPP Indy College Prep Middle School. The ADSS will work to ensure that both proactive and reactive student interventions and discipline decisions are in alignment with the vision, values, and expectations of KIPP Indy and will collaborate closely with school leaders, teachers, students, and families. In addition to playing a role in cultural initiatives and responding to daily discipline incidents, the ADSS will lead the school’s positive behavior incentive system and teach three sections of an enrichment course aimed to implement explicit character education, increase emotional intelligence, and engage students in service learning.

Responsibilities

  • School Culture
  • Collaborate with the school leadership team to foster a culture that supports the school’s vision and promotes respect and appreciation for all students, staff, and families
  • Cultivate strong relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, including students, families, and staff
  • Collaborate with the student services team and school leaders to respond to daily student discipline incidents, executing the necessary administrative actions related to documentation, student records, and communication with students, staff, and families
  • Utilize school-wide data (both academic and cultural) to identify areas for refinement to drive improved student outcomes
  • Create and support the implementation of individualized intervention strategies for struggling students
  • Support the implementation of school-wide procedures and expectations, including arrival, dismissal, dress code, and transitions.
  • Collaborate with the implementation of the school-wide positive behavior incentive system based on an economy of earnings for behavioral and academic achievements and includes weekly reports for families
  • Collaborate with Response to Intervention (RtI) team on behavioral data tracking to provide tiered support for identified students
  • Refer students to additional support services (i.e. health services, counseling services, mentorship programs, etc.) as necessary
  • Implement character education course for all students
  • Provide direct instruction for enrichment course for all students aimed to implement explicit character education, increase emotional intelligence, and engage students in service learning
  • Develop long term instructional plan, daily lesson plans, and methods of assessment
  • Utilize student data to set goals, inform decisions, and invest students in their progress
  • Perform all duties related to classroom including physical environment, gradebooks, instructional supplies, and student records
  • Participate in weekly specials department content Student services meetings
  • Create and monitor the progress of Behavior Support Plans for students, working with families and staff to amend plans when necessary for maximum student potential.

EXPECTATIONS

  • Arrive at school by 8 a.m. and participate in after school professional development three days a week
  • Attend and participate in school-sponsored family events
  • Meet all expectations and requirements as stated in the KIPP Employee Handbook

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Pass a criminal background check, as required by law
  • At least three years of experience in an urban school setting
  • Experience teaching in an urban school setting
  • Strong track record of student achievement and student culture
  • Leadership experience coaching or managing others (strongly preferred)
  • Teaching experience (strongly preferred)

Additional Information

Compensation

The salary for this position is 62,000

Salary is commensurate with experience and includes a highly competitive benefits package.
