Job Details

Under general supervision, the Admissions Counselor conducts outreach, provides advising, and offers guidance to prospective students, their families, and school representatives to promote post-secondary education and support a seamless enrollment experience.

    • Position Summary
    • Full-time temporary position available on or after February 1, 2026 and ending on or before January 30, 2027 in Student Recruitment & Outreach. Appointment will be made for one year from date of hire with the possibility of reappointment and/or becoming permanent based on budget, department needs, and job performance.

  • Job Duties
  • Duties include but are not limited to:
    • Establish and maintain direct contact with prospective students, parents, counselors, and teachers to promote post-secondary education and provide information about CSU admission requirements, financial aid, academic programs, and student services.
    • Conduct individual advising and group presentations to address application requirements, financial aid opportunities, and next steps for enrollment.
    • Travel to local and out-of-area schools to deliver in-class presentations, application workshops, and participate in college readiness events, such as college nights and career fairs.
    • Assist with campus tours and recruitment events.
    • Guide prospective students through the CSU application and enrollment process, providing clarity on requirements, timelines, and college readiness test scores (e.g., EAP, SAT, ACT).
    • Track, follow up, and maintain communication with prospective students from initial contact through enrollment, offering guidance on overcoming barriers and ensuring satisfaction throughout the admissions cycle.
    • Provide correspondence and next steps for students who have applied but have not yet enrolled in classes.
    • Collect and review school data, set application goals for assigned areas, and work to achieve established enrollment targets.
    • Analyze historical enrollment patterns to identify strategic areas of recruitment and develop initiatives to promote Stanislaus State in targeted regions, including outside the six-county service area.
    • Develop and implement strategies to highlight educational opportunities and attract diverse student populations.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    • Minimum Qualifications
    • Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. (Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.) Experience: Equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. (A master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.)

  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, Higher Education Administration, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in academic advising, student services, or educational program coordination within higher education.
    • Demonstrated experience providing presentations to large and diverse audiences, including students, parents, and school staff.
    • Familiarity with California State University (CSU) admission requirements, financial aid processes, and student services.
    • Experience managing data and tracking prospective student engagement using Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software or similar tools (e.g., Salesforce, PeopleSoft).

  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
    • Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of the program to which assigned.
    • General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management.
    • General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principles of individual and group behavior.
    • Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations.
    • Ability to use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements.
    • Ability to obtain factual and interpretive information through interviews.
    • Ability to reason logically; ability to collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentation based on these data.
    • Ability to advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required;
    • Ability to recognize multicultural, multi-sexed and multi-aged value systems and work accordingly.
    • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts.
    • Ability to rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned.
    • Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas.
    • A background check (which may include: checks of employment records, education records, criminal records, civil records, motor vehicle records, professional licenses, and sex offender registries, as position requires) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be employed with the CSU.

  • Special Conditions
    • Occasionally required to travel between campuses and/or off-campus sites.
    • Occasionally required to work evenings and weekends as needed.

    • Salary Range
    • Anticipated salary will be $5,083 - $5,591 per month plus excellent paid benefits. Salary will depend on the qualifications of the successful finalist. (Full Student Support Professional II range: $5,083 - $7,228 per month)

    • Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
