NAE Federal Credit Union has an immediate opening for a full time Loan Officer in Chesapeake, Virginia. We are a local community chartered credit union that provides a variety of retail lending products as well as all major account types. We strive every day to be our members’ primary financial institution. We are looking for a dynamic, talented individual to join our team.

Summary of Positon:

Under occasional supervision and in accordance with established policies and procedures, the Direct Loan Officer will provide support for the Consumer Lending Department that includes, but is not limited to: Reviewing member loan applications, credit bureaus, and financial positions to approve, counter offer or deny loan applications. Opening new member accounts to include Primary share accounts, draft accounts and ancillary accounts and services. Cross selling all credit union products and services to assure maximum customer service and product penetration. Processing member inquiries and researching member accounts. Preparing letters, documents and correspondence in the best interest of the credit union by following established policies, procedures, laws and regulations. Stay current with all Federal and State codes and consumer lending regulations including the Bank Secrecy Act.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Meets or exceeds set performance standards.
  • Maintains Credit Union quality service standards.
  • Ability to verbally interact with management, associates and members.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents including loan notes, regulations in regards to consumer lending and negotiable instruments, collections, policy and procedures manuals.
  • Ability to resolve interpersonal conflict and miscommunications.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratios and percentages.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer, including knowledge of spreadsheet software and ability to use word processing software.
  • Must be Bondable.

Other Skills:

  • Knowledge of credit union products and services, including, but not limited to: Share products, Lending products, Convenience products, and Insurance products.
  • Knowledgeable about the credit union system, its structure, common language and acronyms, philosophy and the credit union’s mission.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and tools, such as fax machine, postage machine, photocopier, typewriter and telephone.

  • Demonstrates sufficient finger dexterity to operate PC or online CRT terminal.
  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • Use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls.

  • Bends, stoops, kneels, pushes and pulls while filing or moving supplies

Education and/or Experience

  • Associates degree in Business Administration or equivalent preferred but not required
  • Minimum of three years lending experience, preferably in a financial institution
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Consult with members to obtain required documentation and open new accounts.
  • Review online and in office consumer lending applications for approval or denial.
  • Consult with members to determine income available to meet credit obligations, plus any other financial or legal obligations, if any.
  • Calculate amount of debts and funds available to confirm method and time of payoff.
  • Review credit reports and asset liability.
  • Review and approve/deny auto, boat and RV loan applications.
  • Review and approve/deny share and unsecured loan applications.
  • Review and approve/deny credit card applications.
  • Review and process requests for extensions and loan payoffs.
  • Open certificate and IRA accounts.
  • Perform notary services.
  • Assist members with account and loan information as necessary.
  • Answer telephones quickly.
  • Prepare and/or compile necessary reports for management, board, staff or regulatory agencies.
  • File copies of correspondence or documents that have either been mailed or received by the department.
  • Explain, promote, or sell credit union products or services such as insurances, savings bonds, share accounts, savings instruments, and cashier's checks.
  • Promote honest and open communication throughout the credit union.
  • Demonstrate behaviors that are consistent with the credit union’s values, philosophies and leadership characteristics.
  • Assist in the coaching and training of loan processing staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management (marketing calls, courtesy calls, etc).

Pay: $17.50 - $20.00 per hour
