JOB TITLE AND DUTIES
Position: Job Captain/Designer 2
Reports to: Project Architect
Location: Los Angeles, CA
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Job Captain is responsible for proactively and collaboratively progressing projects through all phases of design. Under the supervision of a Project Architect, the Job Captain contributes creative and technically sound design ideas, concepts, and solutions while serving as an integral member of the project team.
The role requires strong judgment, organization, and communication skills, with the ability to execute assigned tasks efficiently and consistently while adhering to firm standards, project goals, schedules, and budgets. The Job Captain demonstrates growing independence in production and coordination while continuing to work within the direction of senior team members.
This position is well suited for designers with a strong interest in technical design and project delivery who are motivated to grow into a Project Architect role over time, particularly within multifamily and mixed-use project types.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 5–8 years of professional experience; multifamily experience preferred
- Professional degree in Architecture
- Architectural license or actively progressing toward licensure
- Working knowledge of multifamily building typologies, including Type III and Type V construction and podium buildings, preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Revit and Rhino or AutoCAD
- Proficiency in PowerPoint and Adobe Creative Suite; familiarity with Bluebeam and BIM 360
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrates a strong working knowledge of multifamily project requirements and complexity, proactively contributing to the success of the project team while adhering to firm standards and design intent.
- Develops creative and innovative design ideas, concepts, and solutions as part of a collaborative design team.
- Coordinates and produces architectural drawings for schematic design, design development, and construction documents under the direction of the Project Architect.
- Takes an active role in the preparation of client and internal design presentations, including development of graphics and presentation materials.
- Executes assigned tasks using sound judgment and a creative approach, completing work in an organized, timely, and consistent manner within established schedules and budgets.
- Reviews own work for accuracy, completeness, clarity, and compliance with firm standards and project requirements.
- Coordinates effectively with consultants and internal team members on assigned portions of the work.
