Shipping and Receiving Technician
This position is for a specialist in the Shipping and Receiving Department. This role is essential in ensuring accurate shipments, receipts, verification, and storage of incoming materials. The ideal candidate enjoys structured work and follows procedures carefully. The employee in this position is responsible for receiving, distributing and maintaining inbound shipments and controlling materials and supplies in the inventory cage. The employee is also responsible for fulfilling orders while working both independently and as part of a team. They will be required to assist other departments, when required, to ensure timely delivery of products.
Essential Skills & Functions
Shipping
· Build cardboard boxes
· Accurately process and complete parts orders with minimal supervision
· Package Parts in accordance with packing requirements ensuring timely shipment to customers.
· Preparing products for shipment using appropriate packaging materials to prevent damage during transit.
· Verifying that the correct part numbers, quantities, revisions, and customer information match the packing list and purchase order.
· Reviewing shipping documentation, including packing slips, bills of lading, commercial invoices, and certificates of conformance (when applicable).
· Coordinating with Quality to ensure all required inspections, test reports, and certifications are complete before shipment.
· Applying proper labels, markings, barcodes, and customer-specific identification requirements.
· Scheduling shipments with approved carriers and arranging pickups.
· Maintaining shipping records
· Updating customers or internal personnel with shipment status and tracking numbers.
· Ensuring compliance with export control regulations, hazardous material requirements, and customer-specific shipping instructions, when applicable.
· Maintaining accurate inventory of shipping supplies and notifying management when replenishment is needed.
· Keeping the shipping area clean, organized, and safe in accordance with company procedures.
· Reporting damaged products, packaging issues, or shipment discrepancies to management.
Receiving
· Maintain inventory accuracy through regular cycle counts and audits
· Receive incoming materials, parts, components, and supplies in accordance with established procedures.
· Verify shipment documentation, including purchase orders, packing slips, certificates of conformity, and applicable certifications.
· Inspect received items for quantity, identification, damage, and obvious discrepancies.
· Confirm that received products match purchase order requirements, including part number, revision level, specifications, and required documentation.
· Ensure traceability is maintained by recording lot numbers, heat numbers, serial numbers, and other applicable identification information.
· Identify and communicate any discrepancies, shortages, damaged materials, or nonconforming product to Quality and Purchasing personnel.
· Route received items for inspection, acceptance, or approval as required by the Quality Management System.
· Ensure accepted materials are properly labeled and transferred to designated storage or production areas.
· Maintain accurate receiving records within the company’s tracking system.
· Prevent unauthorized use of unapproved or nonconforming materials by following material control procedures.
· Support internal and external audits by maintaining accurate receiving documentation and records.
· Follow all applicable safety, quality, and company procedures.
· Perform other duties as assigned by management.
· Keep records and documentation organized.
· Work a complete 8-hour shift.
· Ensure attendance and punctuality to follow a strict schedule.
· Maintain good departmental housekeeping for safe and efficient operations.
· Understand and follow all safety related standards and practice.
· Ability to read, speak and write in English.
· Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Notes: Each employee will be trained to perform all of the above tasks.
Physical Demands
- Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and adjust body position to climb, bend, stoop, squat, crawl, kneel, walk, turn, pivot, push, pull, reach overhead and stand for 8 or more hours a day.
- Must be able to walk or stand on level surface for extended periods of time.
- Must display excellent time management skills, be able to work with little or no supervision and communicate regularly.
- Ability to work in varying temperatures indoor/outdoor, depending upon season.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to hear well, naturally or corrected.
- Work in manufacturing environment.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, typically 7:30am – 4:00pm. However, Evenings, Overtime and Saturday may be required to meet the business demand.
Work Environment
Working environment may include indoor/outdoor areas/sites and will require constant vigilance and care. The job also requires constant movement around the building, meaning there is a lot of walking!
