NAC is a national firm with over 230 employees working in offices in Seattle, Spokane, Los Angeles, and Columbus. Within NAC, Handbuilt provides graphic design services within NAC and pursues its own educational, civic, cultural, and artistic projects. We collaborate with space-makers, educators, designers, and artists to enrich educational, civic, and cultural experiences.
Applicants should have an academic background in graphic design or be enrolled in a graphic design program.
Job Description
The hired intern will be part of a small team of graphic designers responsible for a diverse range of projects serving the practices of NAC and Handbuilt. Design areas include environmental, print, motion, screen-based, branding, and marketing. They will assist Handbuilt designers with their day-to-day projects, as well as support studio organization and documentation of Handbuilt’s culture and process.

Key Responsibilities
- Collaborating closely with graphic designers, architects, and project teams to enrich and promote design projects.
- Assist with studio organization and documentation.
- Ability to iterate on design work and respond constructively to feedback.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to communicate progress throughout project phases.
- Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
- Hands-on experience on a variety of projects.
- Mentorship from designers with backgrounds in education, cultural, and civic design work.
- Guidance on presenting your work.
- Insight into the operations of both a design studio and an architecture firm.
- Paid internship, with potential to earn college credit (depending on your program).

- A letter of interest describing what resonates for you in our practice.
- A résumé.
- A portfolio of work samples demonstrating your design process, ability to iterate, typographic finesse, and presentation organization skills. Motion and animation skills are a plus.
