Position Requirements: The Waste Certification Specialist (Entry Level) provides support for waste packaging operations. Provides on-site (visual) examination of waste loading operations to ensure only qualified waste material is packaged into suitable waste containers in accordance with project specific requirements for packaging of radiologically impacted demolition waste generated at Department of Energy (DOE) facilities. This position performs technical and administrative waste management functions under the direction of senior project management personnel.
Position Location: Oak Ridge, TN; DOE project sites as assigned

Experience Level: Entry Level (Typically 2–4 years of relevant technical experience or equivalent education/training)
Duration: Full Time-Temporary; 8 month estimated project duration
Compensation: Competitive Hourly or Salary Rate (Dependent on Experience Level)

The Entry‐Level Waste Certification Specialist provides technical support to DOE waste management and decommissioning projects by assisting with waste packaging documentation and compliance activities. This position is well suited for an early‐career technical professional seeking to develop hands‐on experience within a DOE operating environment. The successful candidate will work under established procedures and supervision while gaining familiarity with DOE waste acceptance requirements, disposal facility criteria, and applicable regulations.
Position Qualifications & Experience Needed
- 2–4 years of experience in an environmental, radiological, hazardous waste, or industrial technical support role OR equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Basic understanding of radioactive, hazardous, or mixed waste management concepts
- Familiarity with (or ability to learn): DOE waste management requirements, RCRA hazardous waste fundamentals, 49 CFR hazardous materials shipping requirements
- Ability to follow written procedures, checklists, and technical instructions
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a technical team in a regulated environment
- Individuals with the following training preferred: Radworker; HAZWOPER.
