Title: Quality Assurance Scientist
Nature of Role: The Quality Assurance Scientist is based at Nabsys’ Providence, RI headquarters and plays a central role in validating the hardware and software systems of the OhmX instrument platform, a novel technology in the next-generation sequencing space focused on high-resolution DNA mapping. This position requires regular, hands-on presence in our laboratory facility and is equally focused on wet lab sample preparation and structured testing of instrument control software. Responsibilities
- Execute hardware and software test plans against written specifications, recording results, deviations, and defects with clarity and consistency
- Prepare and run biological samples using standard wet lab techniques, including precision low-volume sample handling with micropipettes
- Reproduce, isolate, and characterize failures across hardware subsystems and instrument control software
- Produce clear, detailed bug reports and interface with engineering teams to track issues through resolution
- Develop test cases, test scripts, and validation protocols as the product evolves covering positive, negative, and regression scenarios
- Contribute to design reviews and provide QA perspective on testability and acceptance criteria
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with quality system requirements, including SOPs, test logs, and traceability documentation
- Communicate findings clearly to cross-functional teams across hardware, software, and applications
Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or a related life sciences field
- At least two years of professional laboratory experience with demonstrated hands-on bench skills
- Hands-on proficiency with micropipettes and wet lab techniques for low-volume, precision sample preparation
- Methodical, process-driven approach to testing with strong attention to detail
- Experience executing structured software test plans, verification and validation (V&V) protocols, or formal test case documentation is preferred; we will train the right person with strong laboratory fundamentals
- Background in genomics, next-generation sequencing library preparation, or DNA/RNA sample handling is a plus
- Exposure to lab instrumentation such as fluidics, optics, or electromechanical systems is a plus
- Familiarity with bug-tracking tools such as Jira or GitHub Issues is a plus
- Experience in a regulated or quality-managed environment (ISO, GMP, or similar) is a plus
- This is not a remote or pure software testing role; candidates whose background is exclusively in software or SaaS quality assurance without hands-on bench laboratory experience will not be a strong fit
Plus Skills:
- Experience with source control, continuous integration and testing methods (i.e., Git, Bitbucket)
- In depth knowledge of software testing methodology, test development, and test exection
