What You'll Do
- Safely operate heavy equipment, including forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment, to transport steel, fabricated components, and production materials throughout the facility.
- Load, unload, lift, transport, and stage large steel plates, structural components, and finished assemblies while following established lifting and rigging procedures.
- Supply production areas with materials needed to support welders, fitters, saw operators, and other manufacturing personnel.
- Operate equipment in active production areas while maintaining constant awareness of surrounding personnel, equipment, and ongoing operations.
- Perform pre-shift inspections of forklifts, overhead cranes, and other equipment to ensure safe operation and report maintenance concerns.
- Safely load and unload trucks and trailers while properly securing materials to prevent damage or injury.
- Coordinate material movement to maintain an efficient production flow and minimize downtime.
- Assist with organizing and maintaining inventory in the yard and production areas.
- Communicate with production teams, supervisors, and fellow equipment operators to prioritize material movement and support production schedules.
- Follow proper rigging practices and safely handle oversized, heavy, or awkward loads.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas throughout the yard and manufacturing facility.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Participate in safety initiatives and continuous improvement activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous experience operating forklifts, overhead cranes, skid steers, loaders, or other heavy equipment in a manufacturing, construction, warehouse, shipping, logistics, or heavy industrial environment.
- Experience safely transporting oversized, heavy, or awkward materials.
- Basic knowledge of rigging practices, load stability, and material handling procedures is preferred.
- Ability to safely load and unload trucks, trailers, and production materials.
- Ability to read work orders, material lists, shipping documents, or production paperwork is a plus.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Excellent attention to safety, organization, and productivity.
- Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and access equipment throughout the shift.
- Ability to climb on and off heavy equipment multiple times during the workday.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to safely work around welders, overhead cranes, forklifts, moving vehicles, suspended loads, and heavy industrial machinery.
- Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled environment with exposure to varying temperatures, noise, dust, and outdoor conditions.
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays based on production needs.
- Ability to remain alert, make sound decisions, and safely operate equipment in a fast-paced production environment.
