Resident Project Inspector- Civil Engineering

Role Description The Resident Project Inspector – Civil Engineering is a full-time, on-site role based in New Orleans, LA. This position is responsible for daily inspection of civil construction activities, including roadways, drainage, utilities, and related infrastructure, to confirm compliance with plans, specifications, codes, and safety standards. The inspector documents field conditions, prepares detailed daily reports, photographs, and quantity measurements, and communicates issues or potential conflicts to the project engineer and contractor. The role includes attending site meetings, observing testing procedures, verifying materials and workmanship, and assisting with punch lists and final inspections. This position works closely with contractors, engineers, and client representatives to help keep projects on schedule, within scope, and in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of civil engineering construction practices, including roadway, drainage, and utility work, with the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contracts.
• Experience in construction inspection or field engineering, including documenting daily activities, verifying quantities, and monitoring contractor compliance with quality and safety standards.
• Proficiency in basic office and field documentation tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, digital cameras, tablets) and accurate record-keeping for reports, logs, and inspection files.
• Familiarity with applicable local, state, and federal construction codes, standards, and safety regulations; ability to support enforcement of site safety practices.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with contractors, engineers, and client representatives, and to resolve field issues collaboratively.
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and capability to work independently on-site in varied weather and field conditions.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate degree or coursework in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field is preferred.
• Previous experience with transportation or municipal infrastructure projects and possession of a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are highly beneficial.
