Marine Service Manager – Job Requirements
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in Marine Technology, Business Management, or a related field preferred.
- 5 years of experience in marine service, boat maintenance, or marina operations.
- 2 years in a supervisory or management role within a marine or mechanical service environment.
- Strong understanding of marine systems (engines, electrical, plumbing, hull, electronics, propulsion).
- Experience with OEM warranty claims, service scheduling, and customer relationship management.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in diagnosing and coordinating repairs for outboard Mercury engines.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and service bulletins.
- Familiarity with marine diagnostic software and tools.
- Competence in using MS Office Suite.
- Understanding of OSHA safety standards and environmental compliance (fuel handling, waste disposal, etc.).
Management & Leadership Skills
- Strong leadership and team-building abilities to manage technicians and service staff.
- Capable of planning, organizing, and prioritizing multiple service projects.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Proven ability to train, mentor, and evaluate marine technicians.
- Skilled in budgeting, estimating, and cost control for service operations.
Certifications (Preferred but Not Required)
- ABYC (American Boat and Yacht Council) or NMMA (National Marine Manufacturers Association) certification.
- Mercury Marine Certifications
- Boating safety or environmental compliance certifications.
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to work in a marina or boatyard environment, including exposure to weather, noise, and physical labor.
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and performing hands-on inspections when necessary.
- Valid driver’s license; boating license or captain’s certification is a plus.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
