Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Education & Experience: Current enrollment in or recent completion of a trade school, technical program, or college degree in construction trades, exhibit or scenic fabrication, industrial design, or a related field. An equitable mix of education and hands-on experience will be considered.

  • Trade Skills: Demonstrated working knowledge of carpentry, concrete work, and drywall, with the ability to execute clean, finished work to design specifications.

  • Tool Proficiency: Working knowledge of large power tools (table saws, chop saws, band saws, drill presses) and skill with small power tools, hand tools, and common hardware.

  • Audio/Visual & Electrical: Familiarity with low-voltage AV equipment and basic electrical components is a plus.

  • Independent Judgment: Ability to work independently with general guidance, take initiative, and develop creative, outside-the-box solutions to unique exhibit challenges.

  • Communication & Collaboration: Strong team orientation with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally across departments and with outside vendors.

  • Mission Alignment: Interest in marine conservation, education, or museum/aquarium environments preferred; unwavering commitment to animal, guest, and staff safety.

  • Availability: Willingness to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and overtime as needed to meet exhibit deadlines and accommodate guest-facing operations.


Physical Demands


This role is performed in an active exhibit, shop, and campus environment that requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods across both indoor and outdoor spaces. The position requires comfort working at heights using ladders and lifts, in low or confined spaces such as beneath aquarium cases or in basement areas, and within supervised animal enclosures. Employees must be able to lift and carry materials up to 50 pounds, operate hand and power tools safely, and tolerate exposure to wet, humid, cold, hot, and noisy conditions as well as occasional contact with solvents, cleaning agents, fumes, odors, and dust. Close, distance, color, and depth vision and the ability to communicate clearly in person and by phone or radio are required.
