Department: Cancer Center- Radiation
Shift/schedule: Full Time (40 hrs/wk)
GENERAL SUMMARY
Works under the direction and the supervision of the Nurse Manager of Cancer Services and AIC and in close coordination with the Lead Therapist. The registered radiation therapist's primary job function is to administer daily radiation treatments, perform CT/simulation as directed and facilitate schedules and documentation in the MOSAIQ EHR.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
- Associate Degree in Radiography required; and completion Radiation Certification Program required, or
- Bachelor's Degree in Radiation Therapy required
Licensure:
- Ohio(T) required
- ARRT(T) required
- Ohio(R) preferred
- ARRT(R) preferred
- BLS/AED within 90 days of hire required
Experience:
- One year on the job experience to learn the operation of departmental equipment and department policy and procedures preferred.
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
- Sets up, delivers, and accurately records radiation therapy treatments.
- Sets up, assists in delivery, and accurately records high dose rate brachytherapy treatments.
- Maintains competencies in CT/Simulator operations, immobilization devices, documentation, and treatment protocols for all simulation procedures.
- Prepares patient table and treatment equipment for CT simulator radiation therapy or high dose rate brachytherapy inclusive of positioning devices, ultrasound, afterloader, table, and gantry set-ups as applicable.
- Constructs electron cut-outs
- Performs proper portal imaging and XVI imaging as prescribed by the radiation oncologist.
- Assists with quality assurance testing inclusive of but not limited to the linear accelerator and CT simulator.
- Charges appropriately for therapy services provided and maintains treatment schedule.
- Coordinates treatment schedules with medical oncology and other services as necessary.
- Observes all therapy equipment and report problems.
- Orders supplies for therapy rooms and stock items.
- Uses AIDET in patient communications and utilizes all mechanisms of patient communication, both written and oral.
- Uses discretion with mobile devices such as cell phones in patient care areas. Limits use of social media to after hours, breaks or lunch periods.
- Performs other duties as prescribed.
