What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Park Ranger position at Myrtle Beach State Park?
This is a park ranger in training position. The employee will work hands on with full time rangers learning the necessary skills to potentially move on to a fill time ranger position in the future.
The position is a full time, NON-permanent field position, working a 40 hours per week for up to 52 weeks per year. Employees work a rotating schedule with shifts that range from 5:30 am to 10:30 pm. This will include working weekends, holidays, and can include being on call throughout the night.
Barracks style housing is available.
Under general supervision, assists with the overall park operation, administration and maintenance of Myrtle Beach State Park. Duties will include but are not limited to collecting and accounting for revenue, routine maintenance, and interpretation. Assist with park operations to include public use areas, retail operations, and other park facilities. Assist with maintaining a safe park and work environment. Enforcement of rules and regulations within specified authority and Park Service Policy. Provide customer service and education for the public by assisting in park programs and informing guests of the cultural history and natural resources of the State Park Service.
Education Requirement: Associate's degree or higher
Experience: Customer Service (Preferred)
Additional Qualifications: Position requires medium to heavy lifting, walking and standing on uneven terrain, crawling and working at heights. Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents and other materials used in maintaining park facilities and grounds. Valid driver's license required.
