Role Description The Heavy Civil Marine Construction Estimator is a full-time, on-site role based in Savannah, GA. This position is responsible for developing detailed cost estimates for marine construction projects, including docks, seawalls, pile-supported structures, and related heavy civil work. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing engineering drawings and specifications, performing quantity takeoffs, soliciting and analyzing vendor and subcontractor quotes, and preparing comprehensive bid proposals. The estimator collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, and field supervisors to validate constructability, identify risks, and align estimates with project schedules and means and methods. The role also involves tracking historical cost data, updating unit pricing, participating in pre-bid meetings, and supporting contract negotiations to help secure profitable, high-quality projects.


Qualifications

  • Experience in heavy civil and marine construction estimating, including familiarity with pile-supported structures, marine equipment, and coastal construction methods.
  • Proficiency with construction estimating software, spreadsheets, and digital takeoff tools for accurate quantity measurement and cost analysis.
  • Strong ability to interpret engineering plans, specifications, and technical documents, with solid understanding of construction materials and means and methods.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills to assess project risks, value engineering options, and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for preparing estimates, bid proposals, and presenting cost analyses to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborative team orientation and ability to work closely with engineers, project managers, field crews, and partners in a safety-focused environment.
  • Relevant education such as a degree or strong coursework in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience in marine or heavy civil construction estimating is highly valued.
