What are the responsibilities and job description for the Billing Clerk position at MyMichigan Health and Careers?
This position provides clerical support throughout the entire department affecting the workflow of billing, collections, payment posting, customer service, and financial reporting. This position processes all incoming mail, processes daily deposits for the Central Business Office (CBO), Clare Urgent Care, MRI and Family Practice Center; rounds to physician offices for daily deposit pick up, assists the Collections Team in processing financial agreements and collection letters; transmits, receives, and distributes daily Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) files and reports; provides billing teams with Medicare coinsurance information; scans and files posted vouchers; maintains office supplies; and is frequently called upon to assist in special projects.
Responsibilities:(25%)* Billing Support: Transmits electronic claim files. Electronically receives EDI reports and distributes. Performs weekly audit of EDI files to ensure electronic claims were received by EDI. Works Medicare vouchers to identify claims needing secondary insurance billed; provides biller with the information needed to complete the secondary billing. Provides general clerical support as requested by the billing teams on a regular basis.

Required Education:High school diploma or GED is required
Other Information:Computer training and advanced math training preferred.
Organization, prioritization, strong keyboard, and computer skills; ability to work independently, flexibility, strong communication skills, and team attitude required.
Proficient word processing skills preferred.
Mandatory tuberculosis (TB) testing must be done annually according to MIOSHA (Michigan Occupational Safety Health Administration) standards. Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
Physical Demand Level: Sedentary. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 0-10 lbs.
