Purpose: This role provides strategic leadership for healthcare compliance within a highly dynamic and regulated environment, enabling compliant growth while advancing a modern, risk-based, and principles-driven compliance program.

The Director, Health Care Compliance Officer will set strategic direction, provide compliance oversight, lead complex risk management initiatives, and drive operational excellence across the U.S. Innovative Medicine organization. This leader will serve as a trusted advisor to senior business and functional leaders, exercising sound judgment to enable business objectives while proactively identifying, mitigating, and managing compliance risk.

Consistent with the Innovative Medicine strategic plan, this role supports the evolution of the compliance program from a predominantly rules-based model to a principles-based, risk-informed framework that emphasizes accountability, ethical decision-making, and compliance by design.

You Will Be Responsible For

  • Provide strategic healthcare compliance leadership for the U.S. Innovative Medicine business, aligned to enterprise and sector compliance objectives.
  • Serve as a thought partner to senior leaders, advising on complex business initiatives, commercialization strategies, medical affairs activities, and emerging business models in a manner that enables compliant execution.
  • Oversee and support business activities based on risk profiling, applying judgment and principles to guide decision-making rather than reliance solely on prescriptive controls.
  • Partner with commercial, medical, regulatory, legal, finance, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with applicable healthcare laws, regulations, industry codes, and company policies governing interactions with health care professionals (HCPs), government officials, and other stakeholders.
  • Actively participate as a member of relevant business leadership teams, embedding compliance perspectives early into strategy development and execution discussions.
  • Lead enterprise- and business-level risk assessments, root cause analyses, mitigation planning, and ongoing risk reviews to assess program effectiveness and inform continuous improvement.
  • Drive a culture of credo-based and principles-driven decision-making, reinforcing accountability, integrity, and ethical leadership at all levels of the organization.
  • Advance compliance by design, partnering with the business to integrate compliance considerations into processes, systems, and operating models in ways that enable speed and scalability.
  • Ensure appropriate governance, escalation, and issue management, including coordination with Legal, Regulatory Affairs, Government Contracting & Compliance, Finance, and Human Resources for investigations, corrective actions, and consistent discipline where required.
  • Partner with colleagues to ensure timely and accurate fulfillment of government reporting and transparency obligations.
  • Contribute to the evolution of the Innovative Medicine compliance operating model, supporting the shift toward risk-based oversight, targeted monitoring, and data-informed decision-making.
  • Manage, coach, and develop direct reports, fostering a high-performing, trusted compliance team capable of operating effectively in a complex matrix environment.
  • Represent the organization externally, as appropriate, through collaboration with industry associations or external forums to inform and influence evolving industry standards and practices.
  • Sponsor and lead cross-functional initiatives that advance healthcare compliance effectiveness and business outcomes.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum 10 years of business-related experience.
  • 5 years of experience in healthcare compliance.
  • 2 years of people management experience, with demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and inspire teams.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. healthcare compliance laws, regulations, industry codes, and pharmaceutical commercial and medical practices.
  • Experience designing, implementing, or evolving compliance programs aligned to an organization's risk profile.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise senior leaders on complex, ambiguous, and high-impact business issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to build strong partnerships and influence across a matrixed organization.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data and trends into clear, actionable insights.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity and leading in environments undergoing transformation.
  • Master's degree or other advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience working with governmental or regulatory bodies preferred.
