An automotive express tech, also known as an express technician or lube technician, is an entry-level position in the automotive service industry. This role focuses on performing basic, routine vehicle maintenance tasks efficiently and accurately. It's often a starting point for individuals looking to build a career in automotive repair, with opportunities for growth into more advanced technician roles.
Key Responsibilities and Duties

Routine Vehicle Maintenance:
- Performing oil changes and fluid top-offs (coolant, brake fluid, windshield washer fluid, etc.).
- Conducting tire rotations, balancing, and repairs.
- Replacing filters (oil, air, cabin, fuel).
- Replacing windshield wipers.
- Checking and replacing batteries.

Vehicle Inspections:
- Performing multi-point inspections to identify potential issues with a vehicle's belts, hoses, brakes, and other components.
- Documenting inspection findings and service requirements clearly and accurately.

Customer Communication and Service:
- Communicating with service advisors and other team members to ensure a smooth workflow.
- Explaining service recommendations and maintenance needs to customers
- Maintaining a positive and professional attitude.

Shop Maintenance:
- Maintaining a clean and organized work area.
- Using and maintaining dealership-provided tools and equipment in proper operating condition.
- Adhering to all safety and hazardous materials procedures.
Requirements:
• Must be 18 years-old or older
• Have a valid Driver's License
• High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent)
• Open to technicians with basic entry level experience.
• Team-oriented, flexible and focused on maintaining a high level of customer service.
• Able to explain mechanical diagnoses and required repairs in a non-technical manner to service advisors.
• Acceptable verbal and written communication skills.
• Able to carefully follow directions, checklists and established procedures.
• Willing to adhere to all Warranty, federal and state agency and company compliance processes with regards to repair, hazardous materials, disposal and safety.
• Able to Stand and walk for extended periods of time.
