VDC Manager
Position Summary
MYCO Mechanical, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented VDC Manager to lead our Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) initiatives. This role is responsible for managing BIM coordination, project modeling, clash detection, construction technology implementation, and collaboration efforts across multiple projects. The VDC Manager will work closely with project management, field operations, engineering, fabrication, and external project partners to improve project efficiency, quality, and constructability through innovative technology solutions.
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in BIM software, mechanical systems, construction processes, and team leadership, while maintaining a commitment to MYCO Mechanical's values of safety, quality, innovation, and customer service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
VDC Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and manage MYCO Mechanical's VDC standards, workflows, and best practices.
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of BIM and VDC processes across all projects.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies, software, and processes that improve project delivery and operational efficiency.
- Support company initiatives related to prefabrication, digital construction, and construction technology.
Project Coordination & Modeling
- Oversee the creation, development, and maintenance of mechanical BIM models throughout all project phases.
- Manage clash detection and coordination efforts with project stakeholders, including owners, architects, engineers, general contractors, and trade partners.
- Facilitate and participate in coordination meetings, documenting issues and tracking resolution progress.
- Ensure models are accurate, constructible, and aligned with project schedules and fabrication requirements.
- Collaborate with project teams to identify and resolve design conflicts before construction begins.
Fabrication & Field Integration
- Support fabrication and prefabrication initiatives through model development and shop drawing production.
- Coordinate model-based workflows that improve installation efficiency and reduce field rework.
- Assist field teams with model navigation, layout technology, and construction coordination.
- Utilize VDC tools to support project planning, sequencing, logistics, and installation strategies.
Team Development
- Supervise, mentor, and develop VDC coordinators, specialists, and related personnel.
- Provide training and support to project managers, field leaders, and other employees utilizing VDC technology.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the department.
Quality & Compliance
- Establish quality control procedures for BIM models and project deliverables.
- Ensure compliance with project BIM execution plans, company standards, and contractual requirements.
- Maintain project documentation related to VDC activities and deliverables.
Qualifications
Education
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Mechanical Design, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent industry experience will be considered.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in BIM, VDC, mechanical construction, or related fields.
- Minimum of 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience with commercial and industrial mechanical construction projects strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of HVAC, piping, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, and BIM 360/Autodesk Construction Cloud.
- Experience with clash detection, coordination workflows, and model-based project delivery.
- Familiarity with fabrication software and prefabrication workflows.
- Understanding of laser scanning, point clouds, reality capture, and emerging construction technologies is preferred.
- Strong computer and data management skills.
