Certified Home Health Aides

DUTIES

Provides personal care and related services in the home or assisted living facility, under the direction, instruction and supervision of the staff nurse and the Director of Nursing.

Tasks to be performed includes light housekeeping of the patient surroundings.

Under no circumstances may an HHA be assigned to receive or reduce any intravenous procedures, or any other sterile or invasive procedures, other than rectal temperatures.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Follows the plan of care to provide, safe, competent care to the client.

Helps the patient to maintain good personal hygiene and assists in maintaining a healthful, safe environment - this includes cleaning.

Plans and prepares nutritious meals, markets when instructed to do so by the nurse.

Assists with medications that are ordinarily self-administered and do not require the skills of an RN or LPN.

Assists the patient with ambulation as ordered by the physician and approved and supervised by the nurse.

Simple dressing changes that do not require the skills of an RN or LPN.

Hearing, eyesight and physical dexterity must be sufficient to perform a physical assessment of the client's condition and to perform client care.

• Language Requirement: Applicants must be fluent in English, in order to apply for this position. The ability to communicate in English is required to meet the client’s specific communication needs and to safely and effectively provide client care.
• On occasion, may be required to bend, stoop, reach, and assist with moving a client weighing up to 250 pounds; lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds.
• Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, in English.

EQUIPMENT OPERATION

Use of BP cuff, thermometer and stethoscope, hand washing materials

COMPANY INFORMATION

Has access to all client medical records which may be discussed with the Registered Nurse and the Director of Nursing.

QUALIFICATIONS

Preferably a high school diploma or equivalent

Must have completed aide training which includes an introduction to personal care services.

If a Nursing assistant certified in Massachusetts, the individual will meet the qualifications for a home health aide as hours of training will exceed the minimum required.

Must be free from health problems that may be injurious to patient, self and co-workers and must present appropriate evidence to substantiate this.

Must comprehends the basics of personal care, housekeeping and meal preparation.

Must understand and respect client’s including ethics and confidentiality of care.

Must have a criminal background check.

Must have be certified as a home health aide or certified nurse aide.

Must have current CPR certification.
