Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Dental Assistant/Hygiene scheduler to join our healthcare team. This is a very flexible role working as a dental assistant and sole front desk for one part-time doctor for 13-15 hours a week. Then gaining more hours as the secondary scheduling receptionist for our second full time doctor. Our previous team member wanted more hours and consistently averaged 60 hours a week. Our office has two doctors with two separate practices where this role shares across both offices. Must have dental assisting experience with x-ray certification and some knowledge of dental reception.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly, verify insurance information, and schedule appointments efficiently using dental practice management software Open Dental.
- Assist dentists during procedures by preparing treatment rooms, sterilizing instruments, and very light dental supply management.
- Collect payments and perform insurance verification as needed through Dental Exchange.
- Assist in answering part-time doctor emails and patient requests, scanning new patient documentation adhering to clinical confidentiality policies and confirming timelines for patient medical history.
- Manage multi-line phone systems with professional phone etiquette, addressing patient inquiries and coordinating appointment scheduling.
- Provide exceptional patient service by assisting with intake procedures and explaining treatment options clearly and compassionately.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure a clean, organized clinic environment that meets safety standards and promotes efficient workflow.
Requirements
- Must have x-ray certification
- Must be willing to work Tuesday mornings from 6:00am-3:00pm; Wednesdays 1:00pm-7:00pm and one Saturday a month (usually the second Saturday) from 8:00am-2:00pm. When we work the Saturday, the Wednesday preceding is usually closed. Other office hours are Monday, Thursday, Friday 9:00am-5:00pm.
- Prior experience in dental clinics with familiarity in dental terminology and clinical procedures.
- Proficiency in Open dental software is a bonus.
- Strong knowledge of dental billing practices including insurance verification, radiography guidelines, and pre-authorization/billing requirements for payment.
- Excellent computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office Suite for documentation review and administrative support tasks.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities efficiently while maintaining attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
- Outstanding customer service skills combined with professional phone etiquette and effective communication abilities.
- Previous office management or clerical experience within a healthcare setting is highly desirable; familiarity with dental office software is required.

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
