The Lead Medical Assistant (LMA) provides direct support to Cardiologists, Nurse Practitioners and other healthcare providers in a fast-paced, patient-centered cardiology and interventional practice. The role includes overseeing the daily operations of the medical assistant team, assisting with clinical procedures, performing patient care duties, and ensuring that the clinical practice runs efficiently. This position requires a strong understanding of cardiology terminology, procedures, and specialized patient care.
Reporting Structure:
Reports to the Administrator on all practice management, administration and patient issues.
Reports to the Chief Physician regarding all clinical issues relating to patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
- Patient Preparation: Prepare patients for exams and procedures by taking vitals, reviewing patient medical histories, and documenting relevant information in the EHR.
- EKG: Perform routine tests such as EKGs, Holter monitoring, as instructed by the cardiologist and standard operating procedures of the office.
- Assist in Procedures: Assist the physicians or mid-levels during examinations and in office procedures, ensuring patient comfort and safety as top priority.
- Patient Education: Provide education to patients about their condition, medications, and lifestyle modifications under the direction of the physicians or mid-level provider.
- Medical Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all medical equipment is functional, cleaned and calibrated regularly according to standard infection control protocols set by the practice.
Lead Responsibilities:
- Team Supervision: Oversee and supervise daily activities of the medical assistant team, ensuring proper patient flow and efficiency in the clinic.
- Training and Mentoring: Train new medical assistants, provide ongoing education, and assist with professional development as directed by management.
- Quality Control: Ensure adherence to clinical protocols and ensure best practices are followed by the medical assisting team.
- Schedule Coordination: Assist in scheduling procedures as needed, follow-up appointments, and coordination with other departments as directed by management.
- Inventory Management: Manage inventory of medical supplies and ensure proper stock levels are maintained on a weekly basis.
- Staff Management: Meet with the Administrator on a weekly basis to discuss on-going needs of the department.
Administrative Duties:
- Patient Documentation: Accurately update patient charts, lab results, and other documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) system prior to the patient coming in to increase the flow of the patient experience.
- Medical Records: Coordinates the incoming/outgoing process of medical records.
- Referral Management: Facilitate patient referrals to specialists, ensuring smooth coordination of care as directed by the physicians or mid-level providers.
- Communication: Serve as a liaison between patients, medical providers, and office staff, ensuring clear communication across all levels in relationship to the clinical area.
Compliance and Safety:
- HIPAA Compliance: Adhere to all privacy and confidentiality regulations, including HIPAA guidelines, to protect patient information.
- Safety Protocols: Ensure safe handling and disposal of medical waste, and compliance with OSHA standards for workplace safety.
Qualifications:
Education and Certifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; Medical Assistant Certification required (CMA, RMA, or equivalent).
- Cardiovascular technology certifications (e.g., ECG, EKG) a plus.
- Phlebotomy certification required.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Medical Assistant, preferably in cardiology or a related specialty.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience in a clinical setting is highly preferred.
Skills:
- Clinical Skills: Proficient in taking vital signs, performing EKGs, and assisting with cardiology-and vascular specific procedures.
- Leadership Skills: Ability to manage, guide, and mentor a team of medical assistants to ensure high levels of performance and patient care.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with patients, physicians, and staff effectively.
- Organization: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Computer Proficiency: Experience with EHR systems, scheduling software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Attention to Detail: Must be detail-oriented and able to accurately document patient information and manage administrative tasks.

Pay: $22.00 - $27.00 per hour
