General Summary:
The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Polymerase Reaction (PCR) lab. The Supervisor is responsible for the supervision, direction and coordination of the lab employees and processes.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology or related field required.
  • Experience in a laboratory setting required.
  • Experience with real time PRC and instruments a plus
  • Supervisory experience in a lab preferred 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to attend to independently manage projects, ensure compliance with established deadlines and protocols
  • Strong leadership skills with an ability to lead by example, and motivate team members
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
 
Working Conditions:
  • Lifting to 50 lbs. occasionally
  • Carry up to 20 lbs. occasionally
  • Standing/walk for long periods of time without resting
  • Sitting for extended periods
  • Withstanding pressure and deal with emergency situations as needed
  • Average working hours with possible non-traditional hours
  • Potential for exposure to blood and body fluids
 
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform PCR runs, analyze data, and prepare technical reports according to standard operating procedures
  • Direct supervision of PCR laboratory staff
  • Train, develop, and performance manage staff
  • Direct supervision of all logistical processes and functions.
  • Assist in the establishment and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and systems
  • Track and manage sample volume in relation to available capacity
  • Review incident reports and perform necessary investigation and follow up within 48 hours of incident
  • Ensures maintenance of equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s directions, policy and protocol
  • Maintains all areas in compliance with organization directives and protocols as well as center policies and procedures relative to infection control, exposure control, and safety issues
  • Maintains adequate supplies
  • Ensures the proper disposal of all contaminated or potentially contaminated materials in accordance with Dental Department directive, center policy as well as state and federal regulation(s)
  • Monitors the compliance of the Exposure Control Plan including but not limited to the use of Personal Protective Equipment and Universal Precautions
  • Participates in Quality improvement activities that include identifying clinical problems, participates in quality improvement teams and evaluating effectiveness of program improvements
  • Perform other related and/or necessary tasks to meet and exceed organizational and programmatic goals, objectives and efficiency metrics
  • Responsible for personal compliance of all applicable federal, state, local and center rules, regulations, protocols and procedures including, but not limited to personnel issues, workplace safety, public health and confidentiality
  • Plans and coordinates department efforts in process improvement activities while driving standardization of workflows (best practices)
  • Effectively communicates process change
  • Demonstrates excellent initiative and judgment. Works independently applying effective approaches to task prioritization, time management, delegation of tasks and meeting deadlines. Exhibits outstanding decision making and customer service
  • Promotes a work environment of accountability and ownership. Sets appropriate standards of performance and communicates clear expectations to staff. Shows direct and tangible evidence of coaching, mentoring and professional development.
  • Fosters an environment that promotes trust and cooperation among all staff at MVHC
  • Performs other duties as assigned
