The Peace Officer is responsible for maintaining the safety, security, and order of assigned properties, residents, staff, and visitors. Operating under the authority granted by applicable state law, the Peace Officer protects life and property, prevents criminal activity, responds to emergencies, and enforces laws, rules, and organizational policies within the designated area of employment.

Peace Officers perform law enforcement functions consistent with state statutes and departmental procedures while maintaining a professional and community-oriented presence.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Patrol buildings, grounds, and surrounding assigned areas on foot or by vehicle.

• Protect life and property through proactive monitoring and response.

• Prevent and suppress criminal activity and disorderly conduct.

• Enforce applicable state laws, local ordinances, and organizational rules.

• Maintain peace and order within the assigned jurisdiction.

• Respond to emergency calls involving:

o Medical incidents

o Fire alarms

o Disturbances

o Suspicious activity

o Safety hazards

• Conduct preliminary investigations and gather relevant information.

• Prepare accurate written reports and incident documentation.

• Make lawful arrests when authorized by law.

• Conduct lawful searches when justified.

• Issue summonses or appearance tickets as permitted by law.

• Safeguard evidence and take possession of weapons when necessary.

• Use physical force only when lawful, necessary, and proportionate.

• Escort unauthorized persons from property when appropriate.

• Provide assistance and information to residents, staff, and visitors.

• Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency responders.

• Testify in court or administrative hearings when required.

• Inspect and maintain assigned uniforms and equipment.

• Participate in required training programs and departmental meetings.

• Support community safety initiatives and positive public relations.

• Perform other duties as assigned.


Legal Authority

Peace Officers operate under the authority provided by applicable state law and departmental policy. Authority generally includes:

• Enforcement of laws within the scope of employment

• Warrantless arrests as permitted by law

• Issuance of summonses

• Temporary detention of individuals

• Protection of persons and property

• Use of force consistent with legal standards

All authority must be exercised professionally, lawfully, and within departmental guidelines.


Minimum Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years of age

• High school diploma or GED required

• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record

• Ability to speak, read, and write English clearly

• Ability to prepare detailed written reports

• Ability to pass:

o Background investigation

o Drug screening

o Psychological evaluation (if required)

• Must meet all state requirements for appointment as a Peace Officer

• Ability to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays


Preferred Qualifications

• Prior law enforcement, corrections, military, or security experience

• Peace Officer certification

• CPR / First Aid certification

• De-escalation and conflict resolution training

• Experience working in residential or community settings

• Knowledge of applicable criminal procedure law


Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to:

• Stand and walk for extended periods

• Climb stairs frequently

• Respond quickly to emergencies

• Lift or move up to 50 pounds

• Restrain individuals when necessary

• Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions

• Operate patrol vehicles and communication equipment


Work Environment

Peace Officers work in residential, commercial, or mixed-use properties. The role may involve:

• Exposure to stressful situations

• Contact with confrontational individuals

• Outdoor patrol in all weather

• Shift work including evenings, overnight, weekends, and holidays

• Emergency recall when necessary
