What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Teacher position at Mustard Seeds Christian Daycare?
The Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in creating a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children. This role involves assisting with daily routines, classroom activities, behavior management, and communication with families, ensuring a positive and engaging experience for all children.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the implementation of curriculum and lesson plans that promote child development in social, emotional, cognitive, and physical areas.
- Assist with setting up and maintaining a clean, organized, and child-friendly classroom environment.
- Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring their safety at all times.
- Help guide children through routines such as arrival, meal times, toileting/diapering, rest time, and departure.
- Maintain a positive and respectful tone with children, families, and coworkers.
- Communicate with the Lead Teacher about children’s progress, concerns, or incidents.
- Participate in classroom observations, documentation, and assessments as directed.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and required professional development.
- Uphold center policies, licensing regulations, and health and safety guidelines.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required; CDA, Associate’s, or coursework in Early Childhood Education preferred.
- Experience working with young children in a group setting preferred.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs, sit on the floor, and actively engage with children.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
- A genuine love for working with children and supporting their growth.
