Studio Manager & Member Experience Lead

Full-Time | Musicians Playground | Downtown Crossing, Boston

Pay: $60,000 base salary, target performance bonus of $20,000 in annual performance bonus paid quarterly ($80,000 on-target earnings)

Are you someone who thrives in hospitality, boutique fitness, wellness, retail, or community-centered environments where relationships genuinely matter?

Do you enjoy helping others, solving problems, bringing calm to fast-moving environments, and creating spaces where people feel genuinely welcomed, cared for, and excited to return?

Are you excited by the opportunity to help grow a meaningful, mission-driven business while stepping into a leadership role with room for long-term growth?

If so, you may be exactly who we’re looking for.

About Musicians Playground

We're Boston's first and only "gym for musicians," a vibrant adults-only music community designed for people who want more joy, creativity, confidence, and connection through music. Our 3,000 sq ft Downtown Crossing studio offers private lessons, group classes, performances, and corporate events, plus unlimited practice access for members.

Our members come to us to reduce stress, rediscover play, build confidence, and reconnect with parts of themselves they haven't had time for in years. They're growth-oriented, kind, and genuinely excited to be here, which makes this one of the most rewarding hospitality roles in the city.

We’re looking for an experienced, driven Studio Manager to lead our studio day to day and take full ownership of how it runs, how it grows, and how every member feels when they walk through the door.

The Role

This is a full-time, member-facing role at the heart of our studio and our community. You’ll be the person who makes Musicians Playground feel like a place people belong, owning the community, the member experience, retention, and the day-to-day operation of the studio. Ownership handles hiring and the back-end numbers, so your focus stays where it matters most: creating an exceptional experience that keeps members engaged and the studio growing. If you’ve owned the member experience at a fitness club, yoga or pilates studio, boutique gym, or similar membership business and loved it, this will feel like home.

What You'll Be Doing

Community & Culture:

• Cultivate and uphold the Musicians Playground community and culture, living our mission and values every day and making the studio a place people feel they belong

• Build the relationships, rituals, and sense of belonging that turn members into a genuine community and make every member’s experience phenomenal, not just satisfactory

• Represent the MP brand within the studio and across the local music and creative community

Member Experience & Retention:

• Own the end-to-end member experience so every touchpoint, from a first visit onward, feels welcoming, personal, and special

• Ideate and implement the initiatives that reduce churn, deepen engagement, and keep members growing with us, from proactive check-ins to win-back efforts

Membership Growth & Studio Dynamics:

• Convert Intro Week guests into members and strengthen renewals through genuine, high-quality member interactions

• Support local marketing and member-acquisition initiatives in partnership with ownership, bringing new people through the door and into the community

Studio Operations:

• Run daily studio operations: opening and closing, space and inventory management, supplies, and vendor coordination

• Conduct regular walkthroughs to keep the studio clean, welcoming, and well-maintained, coordinating repairs and improvements as needed

• Uphold the studio’s presentation and brand standards at all times

Who You Are:

• An experienced, member-facing professional with 3 years owning customer or member experience in a fitness club, yoga or pilates studio, boutique gym, wellness brand, or hospitality setting

• A natural community builder who creates belonging and connection, and who people are drawn to

• Relationship-driven and genuinely energized by making members’ experiences exceptional

• A confident communicator with sharp attention to detail, strong follow-through, and great judgment in the moment

• Highly organized and self-directed, able to own the day-to-day and make sound calls independently

• Comfortable in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where priorities shift and ownership matters

• Bonus points for sales or marketing experience, especially anything tied to membership growth, conversion, or community building

• Passionate about music, the arts, or personal growth (musical experience is not required but always welcome!)

You likely bring:

  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience in a customer-facing environment (boutique fitness, hospitality, retail, wellness, membership businesses, or creative arts)
  • A track record of supporting sales goals, client retention, or business growth
  • Strong communication, organization, and follow-through
  • An eye for design and a real care for how spaces feel
  • Comfort with platforms like Mindbody, Google Workspace, ClickUp, Klaviyo, Canva, and CRM tools (or the ability to learn them quickly)

Musical experience is welcome but absolutely not required.

Compensation and Benefits

• Base salary: $60,000 per year

• Performance bonus: up to $20,000 per year (targeting $80,000 total compensation), tied to revenue growth and member retention targets the studio has a strong track record of hitting

• Health insurance with 50% of your premium covered by Musicians Playground

• Commuter benefits

• Free access to music lessons, group classes, and studio use

• Paid training and development, with a clear path into senior leadership

Schedule

Full-time, 40 hours per week, Tuesday through Saturday:

• Tuesday: 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM
