Position Summary:

Museum of the Bible is seeking a talented and motivated Graphic Design Intern to join our Creative Team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic museum environment where faith, history, and design intersect. The intern will support the team in developing visual content across a range of platforms—from print and branding to digital and social media assets—helping to bring the museum’s mission and stories to life.

Over the course of the internship, the Graphic Design Intern will engage in a structured learning experience divided into three key phases: Discovery, Execution, and Presentation. Each phase is designed to provide meaningful professional development, culminating in a special design project created in collaboration with the Creative Team.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the creation of print materials including brochures, signage, advertisements, and event collateral.
  • Contribute to branding projects by supporting the development of visual identities and consistent design systems.
  • Design graphics for social media, web, email campaigns, and other digital platforms.
  • Help maintain the museum’s visual brand standards across all projects.
  • Collaborate with writers, marketers, and curators to ensure design aligns with messaging and historical context.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute creative ideas to team projects.
  • Prepare files for print and digital production following technical specifications.
  • Conduct image sourcing, photo editing, and simple illustrations as needed.


Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related field.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (especially Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop).
  • Familiarity with Canva, Figma, or other digital design tools is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of design principles including layout, typography, and color theory.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work both independently and in a team setting.
  • Interest in museums, education, or faith-based cultural institutions is a plus.


Learning Objectives & Milestones:

Phase 1: Discovery

Objective: Build foundational understanding of the Museum of the Bible's visual identity, communication goals, and design process.

Milestones:

  • Onboard with the Creative Team and review brand guidelines, previous campaigns, and current design systems.
  • Shadow team members to observe design workflows, project planning, and cross-department collaboration.
  • Participate in team meetings and creative brainstorms.
  • Identify areas of personal interest (e.g., exhibit design, social media graphics, publication layout).
  • Work with supervisor to define a special project that aligns with team goals and intern interests.


Phase 2: Execution

Objective: Apply design skills to real-world assignments and begin development of the special project.

Milestones:

  • Contribute to a range of projects including print materials, digital content, and branding collateral.
  • Receive feedback through regular design critiques and incorporate revisions to strengthen outcomes.
  • Begin working on the approved special project, which may involve branding a museum event, creating an exhibit campaign, or designing a mini-publication.
  • Document creative process, research, sketches, and iterations as part of the project workflow.


Phase 3: Presentation

Objective: Finalize and present the special project, showcasing design thinking and professional growth.

Milestones:

  • Complete the final version of the special project with input from the Creative Team.
  • Prepare a professional presentation of the work, including design rationale, process, and outcomes.
  • Share the project in a team setting, with the option to present to museum leadership or staff.
  • Receive a comprehensive evaluation and feedback for portfolio development.
  • Reflect on the internship experience and discuss future career goals with a mentor or supervisor.


Work Environment

Physical demands:

Ability to lift up to 10 lbs.

Ability to crouch, climb, balance, sit and stand for extended periods of time.

Applicants will be expected to compose a writing sample during the interview process.
