Position Overview:

Under the direction of the Manager of the Community Arts Initiative (CAI), the CAI Liaison serves as the primary educator and contact for one of twelve CAI partner organizations. Duties center on community building and art programming for the CAI partner, both at the Museum and primarily off-site.

Essential Functions:

The Community Arts Liaison is a part-time role that meets regularly with the Art Director of their CAI partner site to create and facilitate art programming for youth ages 6-14 years old. Programming connects to the Museum’s collections and primarily occurs during after-school hours on weekdays. Primary functions as follows: 

  • Developing art programming and activities for youth at the CAI partner site.
  • Driving the MFA 15 passenger van to transport youth to the Museum for a minimum of 2 and maximum of 12 field trips per fiscal year.
  • Connecting youth families to special programs, events, and opportunities at the Museum.
  • Supporting the Lead Artist of the Artist Project to facilitate 4 art-making sessions that culminate in a collaborative installation each May with all 12 CAI partner sites.
  • Administrative tasks such as sharing lesson plans, tracking program attendance, collecting participant demographic information and release forms, and sharing photos and highlights from visits.
  • Attending a monthly, in-person, evening CAI Liaison team meeting.

CAI Liaisons must be able to meet at their clubs weekly or bi-weekly. Scheduled hours will not exceed 17.5 hours per week or a maximum of 500 hours each fiscal year (July 1—June 30). A typical visit lasts 3 hours once a week between the hours of 3-7 pm, and the Liaison has flexibility to create their own schedule within these parameters in collaboration with their partner site.

Secondary Functions:

The CAI Liaison may occasionally teach in other Learning and Community Engagement (LCE) programs, activities and events for youth and families at the Museum.

Perform other related duties as required or directed.

Job Requirements and Characteristics:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in museum education, art education, studio art, social work, urban studies, or related field.
  • 1-3 years of demonstrated experience with planning and leading art programs for children and families in culturally diverse communities.
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
  • Ability to speak and write in Mandarin, Cantonese, Portuguese, and/or Spanish preferred.
  • Proficient with computer programs such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and Google Suite.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility, patience, independence, and self-motivation.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including evenings
  • Must input hours into the Museum’s electronic payroll system to reflect all hours worked for approval by Manager.

Hours and Pay:

$26.54 per hour

Scheduled hours will not exceed 17.5 hours per week or a maximum of 500 hours each fiscal year (July 1—June 30).
