Job Summary:
Museum of Discovery is looking for a part-time Animal Care Technician who is knowledgeable and passionate about animal care and education. This part-time position is perfect for someone who is seeking a degree in animal biology or veterinary science; or considering animal care as a profession.
Responsibilities will include the care and maintenance of MOD’s live Animal Ambassadors; as well as maintenance of their housing and exhibits. Successful applicants will also be responsible for daily record-keeping and will provide public programming about animal and conservation related topics.
Part-time Animal Care Technicians must have charismatic presentation skills and experience with the care of small exotic animals.
Part-time Care Techs may work upwards of 30 hours per week, the regular schedule is Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm, Saturdays from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm, and Sundays from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Programming schedules are dependent on seasonal workloads and are subject to change. Part-Time Care Techs must be available to work Saturdays.
Starting Salary: $15/hr
Department: Animal Care/Education Department
Reports to: Animal Care Manager, or other manager as assigned
Education: High school diploma or equivalent with relevant experience in animal care and confident presentation skills (or a willingness to learn).

Part-time Educator Detailed Job Description:
Part-time Animal Care/Educator responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- providing exceptional guest experiences
- presenting live animal demonstrations
- enrichment, feeding, and maintenance of animal ambassadors and their housing
- Keep detailed notes and learn to navigate our online charting system
- Ensure safety procedures are always followed.
- Provide assistance during museum events and initiatives.
- General cleaning, tidying, and maintaining the Animal Care Facility.
- Participate in education team and museum staff meetings and planning.
