Loading Dock and Storage Supervisor (Regular, Full-Time)

Facility Services


Reporting to the Manager, Facility Services & Safety, the Loading Dock and Storage Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the museum's three loading docks and operational receiving areas. This role coordinates deliveries, shipments, vendor access, and material movement to support museum operations, exhibitions, events, retail, food service, and facilities activities while successfully tracking shipments of materials and maintaining accurate storage inventories and documentation. Ensuring efficient logistics and communication across museum operations, the Loading Dock Supervisor takes organizational ownership for maintaining a safe, organized, compliant, and process-driven loading dock and storage space environment. This is a term position projected to end one year from the start date.


Responsibilities:


Dock Operations Management and Administration

  • Daily management of safe and efficient loading dock operations, leading museum and vendor truck access for all shipping and receiving. 

  • Organizes, communicates, and executes a comprehensive shipping and receiving schedule. 

  • Oversees all delivery acceptance and outgoing shipping documentation; ensures items are correctly processed through appropriate museum record systems.

  • Leads efforts to document, track, and analyze metrics associated with loading dock throughput and efficiency to identify ongoing operational and process improvements.  

  • Manages and maintains online loading dock scheduling system, providing training to end users.

  • Generates activity reports and records for reviews with leadership.

  • Oversees and manages budget trackers for each area of responsibility for monthly and quarterly review and reporting.

Security & Safety

  • Develops a comprehensive plan to track, monitor, and clear all vehicles, trucks, and machinery operating on museum grounds and partners with Security to coordinate and implement access controls. 

  • Works closely with Museum Security to ensure adherence to security procedures for deliveries and vendor access.

  • Monitors safe operating procedures for equipment and loading dock activities.

  • Maintains required safety records and documentation to meet all compliance and regulatory requirements.

  • Retains organized dock, personnel, and equipment documents in preparedness for periodic inspections and audits.

  • Ensures all equipment users are certified to use the equipment, meeting OSHA and other regulatory training and certification requirements


Fleet Management 

  • Leads operational use of loading dock vehicles and industrial equipment through scheduling use to avoid operational conflicts and maximize task efficiency.  

  • Tracks vehicle and equipment authorized users, all associated training records, and leads ongoing or recurring certification requirements for fleet operations.

  • Coordinates ongoing inspection of vehicles and equipment, schedules and executes preventative maintenance, and facilitates fleet repairs as needed to maintain readiness.

  • Maintains and organizes all documents related to fleet service records and equipment registration.       


Storage Management 

  • Manages and oversees museum non-art storage operations and vendors across all sites, including contracted warehouse space, operational department spaces, off-site/remote locations, and other facility locations containing equipment, materials, or furnishings. 

  • Implements systems to track, maintain, and manage inventory across all non-art storage locations.

  • Ensures efficient retrievals and packaging/shipment of materials as directed.

  • Leads organization of spaces, ensures highest standards of cleanliness and compliance with space use standards.  

  • Generates and shares bi-annual inventory lists with departmental “owners” of the stored items

  • Participates in the development of agreed-upon storage policies regarding storage, transport, retention, and ensures compliance by participating departments. 


Mailroom Oversight 

  • Supervises mailroom staff in execution of daily operations delivering and collecting packages and correspondence across museum facilities. 

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for problem-solving and resolution communication of all issues regarding incoming and outgoing shipments, vendor deliveries/pick-ups, packages, carriers, and materials tracking. 

  • Manages and maintains package tracking and delivery software and generates reports for review and audit.


Benefits: 

  • The expected hourly rate for this Los Angeles, CA-based position is $32.25- $32.70, subject to change, and the position is eligible for LACMA’s comprehensive benefits package, including pension plan.

Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred. 

  • Experience in operations and logistics; progressive experience leading loading dock or warehouse operations preferred.

  • Working knowledge of industrial equipment used in lifting, transporting, stacking, and loading materials.

  • Attention to detail with experience implementing and enforcing operational safety protocols.

  • Experience with shipping and receiving processes and inventory tracking systems.

  • Excellent organization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
