MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education – High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
Experience – Two (2) years of progressively responsible janitorial training or experience is strongly preferred.
Licenses & Certification –
Knowledge & Skills –
Knowledge of janitorial/housekeeping practices and procedures used in health care facilities.
Knowledge of germicides, disinfectants, cleaning supplies, etc. used in providing environmental services in a health care facility.
Knowledge of infection prevention practices in a health care environment.
Knowledge and skill in the operation and maintenance of equipment used in the performance of position duties.
General working knowledge of basic electrical, plumbing and carpentry repair will benefit the incumbent.
Ability to courteously and effectively communicate with patients, visitors, co-workers and others that may occupy the facility at any time.
Ability to carry out written and verbal instructions.
JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of the position is to maintain an aesthetic, clean and safe environment within the Department of Health facilities for patients and their families, staff, visitors and the general public.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a ambulatory healthcare setting. There is common exposure to infections, infectious and communicable diseases, potentially hazardous chemicals and biohazardous materials. Incumbent must be aware of all risks involved and be willing to take precautions as required while performing the duties of the position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work requires incumbent to be on his/her feet for the entire work period. There is also a great deal of regular bending, lifting, stooping, climbing and stretching required in the performance of duties. Incumbent must be able to lift at least fifty (50) pounds.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following:
Cleans patient exam rooms bathrooms, laboratories, offices, halls and other areas of the facility.
Keeps utility and storage rooms in clean and orderly condition.
Replaces soiled drapes and cubicle curtains.
Distributes laundered articles and linens.
May disinfect and sterilize equipment and supplies, using germicides and sterilizing.
Replenishes paper goods to exams rooms, bathrooms, waiting areas and designated staff areas. Replenish and maintain stock of supplies.
Incumbent is responsible for stocking and requesting orders for all cleaning appliances and supplies that are necessary in performing job duties.
Incumbent will be subject to random audits to access work performance.
Incumbent works closely with infection preventionist to aid in disease prevention.
Incumbent is responsible for complying with all regulations for accreditation and MCN DOH policies and procedures.
Responsible for upkeep of facility floors.
Performs other duties as required.
Transport trash and hazardous waste to appropriate disposal area.
Regular attendance is required.
