MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education – Completion of courses/training to satisfy State of Oklahoma and National Paramedic Licensure.
Experience – One (1) year related experience is preferred.
Licenses & Certification – Incumbent must possess current State of Oklahoma and National Paramedic licensure. Incumbent must possess current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications.
Knowledge & Skills –
Knowledge of State and National Paramedic Emergency Medical Services operations and resources.
Knowledge of specific techniques and instruments commonly utilized by emergency medical personnel.
Skills in managing subordinate medical personnel.
Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with Hospital staff as well as the public, both orally and in writing.
Skill in organizing and recordkeeping.
Ability to maintain a confident, professional demeanor.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Skill and ability to work as a member of an emergency medical team.
JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to provide Emergency Medical Services to patients and transport sick or injured persons to medical facilities, working as a member of an emergency medical team.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a variety of constantly changing settings out in the field such as nursing homes, patient homes and hazardous accident scenes/catastrophes, etc. Incumbent is subject to being exposed to all forms of weather.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work requires periods of highly stressful activities while working with patients in emergency situations requiring bending, lifting, stretching and positioning patients. Performance of positional duties will require incumbent to be able to lift in excess 50 pounds. Driving a mobile emergency vehicle is required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following:
Administer life support care to sick and injured persons as authorized and directed by a physician.
Assess the nature and extent of the illness or injury to establish and prioritize the medical procedures to be followed or the need for additional assistance.
Restore and stabilize heart rhythm on pulses and/or nonbreathing patients using a defibrillator, or other items as directed by a physician.
Perform a number of complex medical procedures in the emergency care setting. These may include the following: Monitor cardiac patients using electrocardiograph, initiate IV fluids, endotracheal intubation, administration of injections and/or the inflation of pneumatic anti-shock garments to improve blood circulation.
Record vital signs and any other observations relevant to the patient's condition including the reaction to drugs, treatment and significant events.
Extricate persons from situations requiring assistance. This includes persons trapped in cars, in the water, houses, debris, etc.
May drive mobile emergency unit to the emergency scene.
Serve as team leader for Emergency Medical Technicians.
Regular attendance is required.
Performs other duties as required.
