MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education – High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
Experience – One (1) year related experience in an Optometry Clinic is preferred.
Licenses & Certification –
Knowledge & Skills –
- Knowledge of general office practices and procedures in a clinical environment and the ability to perform a broad range of duties from ordering optometric supplies to basic filing and receptionist duties.
- Skill and ability to operate basic optometry equipment.
- Knowledge of supplemental tests administered during an eye examination.
- Knowledge of eyeglass adjustment and prescription verification.
- Skill and ability to maintain a patient appointment system and the ability to organize and prioritize job duties for timely completion.
- Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with MCN Department of Health administrative and medical staff, patients and their families, Tribal and Non-Tribal health care professionals and the general public both orally and in writing.
JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to provide clinical support to an Optometry Clinic in the delivery and management of quality ophthalmic services for the Muscogee Nation Department of Health.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in an Optometry Clinic and ambulatory health care setting. Potential exists in being exposed to infectious communicable disease and hazardous chemicals or biohazard materials. Incumbent must be aware of all risks involved and be willing to take precautions as requested or required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work requires standing, walking, sitting, lifting of files and equipment and operation of office equipment (computer, fax machines, etc.).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following:
- Performs frame measurement and adjustment to assure maximum eyeglass performance and verifies eyeglass prescription using a lensometer, lens gauges and other instruments.
- Performs supplemental tests as directed by the Optometrist including pupil assessment, visual fields, visual acuity, color perception, intraocular pressure, and other tests as needed.
- Instills diagnostic or therapeutic pharmacological agents into patient’s eyes for ocular evaluation or therapy as instructed by the Optometrist.
- Prepares instruments and equipment and ensures the provision of adequate supplies prior to the beginning of clinics.
- Inputs referrals as needed for patients who require care outside of the Division of Health.
- Maintains records and statistical data of clinical work and prepares activity reports as required.
- Responsible for the ordering of eyeglass/contact lenses from manufacturers and maintains record of all orders made, received and dispensed.
- Ensures availability of quality, stylish and affordable eyeglass frames through communication with the optical labs.
- Regular attendance is required.
- Performs other duties as directed.
