ELEMENTARY DEAN
BUILDING: JEFFERSON ELEMENTARY
EFFECTIVE: 2026-2027 School Year
REPORTS TO: Principal
DAYS / YEAR: 215 days per year
EMPLOYEE GROUP: CLASSIFIED PROFESSIONAL WITHOUT ANNUITY
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Willingness to work collaboratively with the building leadership team and perform duties as assigned.
- Supporting Principal in maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment including student behavior and discipline.
- Supporting special programs including but not limited to dual language immersion, gifted and talented, and ELL.
- Willing to step into the classroom to cover teachers.
- Entering data into district and/or building systems to streamline MTSS structures.
- Assist in facilitating/guiding BST, SST, PBIS, safety/security and other building level teams.
- Oversee and support MTSS systems within the building.
- Ability to oversee breakfast, lunch, recess, bussing, and before/after school supervision.
- Ability to arrange for substitute teacher in-house coverage when subs are not available.
- Oversee and assist in the evaluation, scheduling and day to day expectations of paraeducators and teachers.
- Attend IEP's as the Administrative Designee for this program.
- Willingness to be in charge of or assist with ISASP testing and protocol.
- Facilitate meetings with staff and parents.
- Work flexible hours to meet the needs of the building.
- Be able to motivate and recognize staff achievement.
- All other duties as assigned by the principal.
Physical Requirements of Position:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk to carry out routine duties. Must be able to occasionally lift, move, or push items of 50 lbs such as assisting children or moving/rearranging furniture. Must be able to supervise students in all types of weather, meet multiple demands from several people, and interact with the public and other staff.
Must be able to implement Crisis Prevention Intervention strategies, including appropriate physical restraint procedures and escorting.
Work Environment:
Noise level is quiet to loud. Work may be indoors and/or outdoors. Work may be in non-air conditioned rooms. Tobacco and alcohol-free environment. Fast-paced atmosphere with constant contact with students, staff, or the public. Direct responsibility for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.
Special Qualification Desired: (Personal Qualities, Education, Skills Needed, Experience, Etc.)
- Master's Degree (Administrative Certification) preferred
- Evaluator License for Iowa or ability to get
- 5 years classroom teaching experience
- Experience in facilitating adult groups
- Experience with MTSS
- Technology skills
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Expertise in staff development
- Knowledgeable in working with students with significant special needs
- Experience in dealing with at-risk students
- Must value the diversity of students and reflect this in teaching and disciplinary strategies which emphasize high expectations
- Strong communication skills both verbally and written.
