Goals and Objectives
To train an incoming board-eligible Ophthalmologist to adequately perform vitreoretinal surgery procedures both within the clinic as well as within the operating room
To train for adequate ability to diagnose and treat various diseases in adult vitreoretinal surgery and disease
To train for adequate ability to diagnose and treat various diseases in pediatric vitreoretinal surgery and disease
To train for adequate ability to diagnose various diseases in posterior segment ocular oncology
To train for adequate ability to diagnose and treat various diseases in uveitis and inflammatory conditions
Supervision Policy
Selected trainee will function under direct supervision both in clinic as well as in the operating room at all times by one of three vitreoretinal surgery attendings: Peter H Tang, MD, PhD, Jeffrey Blice, MD, or Mauricio Pereira, MD, PhD.
Trainee will take call and manage patients after hours with the resident physicians only in the capacity as a comprehensive ophthalmologist, for which the trainee is qualified to manage independently as he/she will have completed an ACGME-accredited ophthalmology residency program prior to starting at MUSC for vitreoretinal surgery fellowship.
All topics related to vitreoretinal surgery and diseases encountered while on call will be discussed with one of the three vitreoretinal surgeons prior to initiation of care plan.
