\\The Medical University of South Carolina's Emergency Psychiatric Assessment, Treatment, and Healing (EmPATH) Unit is a specialized hospital-based observation unit dedicated to patients with mental health emergencies. As a Registered Nurse on this team, you will work alongside a multidisciplinary group of healthcare professionals, including psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and assistants, in a calming environment to provide treatment to adult and adolescent patients in need of mental health care.
Schedule and Work Environment\\
This position requires full-time commitment with 36 hours worked per week, consisting of three 12-hour shifts. You will be working both day and night shifts, every other weekend obligation included. You will be regularly exposed to infectious, contagious, and blood-borne diseases, as well as unpredictable situations, requiring effective crisis management skills.
About the Role\\
As a Registered Nurse on the EmPATH unit, your primary responsibilities will include providing professional nursing care within an assigned unit and coordinating care planning with other disciplines. Key tasks include documenting initial nursing histories, assessing patients' conditions, developing individual care plans, and evaluating outcomes. You will also assist physicians with examinations, procedures, and other processes related to direct patient care, while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to MUSC's Standards of Behaviors.
Essential Skills and Qualifications\\
To excel in this role, you must possess a strong foundation in nursing, preferably a Bachelor of Nursing degree. Current licensure in the state of South Carolina and American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification are required. Some clinical or hospital experience is preferred but not necessary. Your ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and handle emergency situations effectively will be crucial in this dynamic environment.
