Job Description Summary

A full-time Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Kenny Vaden at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), as part of an NIH/NIDCD-funded research program on age-related listening difficulties. MUSC offers a strong collaborative research environment and is located in Charleston, SC.

The fellow will assist with the implementation and conduct of MRI studies and will work closely with Dr. Vaden to analyze neuroimaging and behavioral datasets. A primary focus will be perceptual decision-making during speech recognition in noise across the adult lifespan. The fellow will also contribute to dissemination of findings through publications and presentations.

Required Background:

Ph.D. in Psychology, Neuroscience, Hearing Sciences, or a related field

Research experience with neuroimaging (MRI) and experimental methods

Strong quantitative and programming skills (e.g., R, MATLAB)

Preferred Experience

Extensive experience in computational model testing and development

Background in speech perception, aging, and/or hearing science

The position is supported for 12 calendar months per year for up to three years, contingent on performance and funding

(Frequent) Ability to lower objects, up to 15 lbs., from height of 72 inches to floor level, unassisted. (Frequent) Ability to push/pull objects, up to 15 lbs., unassisted. (Infrequent) Ability to lift and carry objects up to 15 lbs. a distance of five (5) floors and to outlying buildings. (Frequent) Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected.
