Job Description Summary

The Compensation Manager will lead the University's compensation and pay programs, strategies, and initiatives. Supports the University's growth, success and key strategies through the design, and continuous improvement of pay and reward strategies, job architectures, job evaluation programs, and competitive market prices.

Job Description

40% - Expertise and Guidance Around Base Pay, Annual Incentive, Pay for Performance, and Job Evaluation: provide consultation and guidance to University constituents regarding compensation and workforce planning best practices, policy interpretation, problem resolution, and compliance with university regulations, state and federal laws; base decisions, advice, and solutions on a full understanding of the specific business needs of the customer as well as a robust evaluation of internal and external market data and available workforce analytics; establish, evaluate, and maintain customer service and communication standards for the Compensation function and use feedback from HR partners and College representatives to evaluate and enhance systems, programs, and services.

25% - Program Design, Special Projects, and Continuous Improvement: lead continuous improvement projects within the Compensation function; continually evaluate and improve upon the competitiveness of University compensation strategies and programs and their efficiency and effectiveness in supporting University goals and priorities; continually evaluate and respond to legislative and other environmental changes; identify and facilitate introduction and administration of internal process and system changes; research needs and develop new and/or revised policies and/or operating procedures as required to meet changing requirements.

15% - Data Management, Reporting, Analytics: identify, collect, manage and use data to respond to inquiries, provide decision support, and analyze competitiveness of University compensation programs in the context of local, regional and national markets; gather and evaluate internal records and apply statistical calculations to establish comparisons with related industry employers; participate in surveys and respond to information requests; proactively identify opportunities and solutions to bridge compensation gaps and internal variances; develop methods and tools to perform research and analysis of survey data to identify trends and prepare reports; researches mechanisms to streamline State data reporting specifications, and position management requirements; facilitate annual reporting or auditing requirements related to the University and State entities, including classification, compensation, rewards, FLSA, and other pertinent regulations.

15% - Budget, Leadership, Collaboration & Communication: manage and develop direct reports, to include work allocation, evaluation, training, development, and problem resolution; create a work environment which employees find engaging and motivating to achieve peak productivity and performance. Participate in the development and implementation of operating budgets, systems, and procedures for the operating unit; participate in overall organizational decision making as a member of the department’s management team. Develop, promote and model institutional philosophies, strategies, values, programs, and policies. Represent the department with internal and external audiences; collaborate with peers across the enterprise towards the successful implementation of a variety of pay related initiatives; work with key stakeholders on all levels to ensure strategies and objectives are considered, feedback valued and internal and external communications effective.

5% - Directs Leave, Absence Programs and Professional Services Agreements as well as other compensation related activities: manages the dual employment, leave pool, leave of absence programs and activities; ensures that service and leave accrual dates are accurately reflected in Workday system.

Additional Job Description

Preferred Requirements: Master's degree in Human Resources or a related field, and a minimum of 4 years of experience in compensation design and execution in a complex organization with workforce in excess of 1,000 employees preferred; experience with market-based decision support tools, resources and innovative methodologies; proficiency in excel and software to organize, communicate and support the communication of strategies to campus and constituents.
