Job Description Summary

MUSC Health - Orangeburg is seeking a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join our dynamic team, focusing on inpatient rehab with the potential to also assist with acute rehab and/or outpatient rehab. In addition to traditional COTA duties, your role may involve aiding in data collection, documentation support to evaluating OT's, conducting mobility screens, and providing mobility support for patients. As a COTA, you will work under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist (OT) to deliver high-quality therapy services and ensure accurate and comprehensive patient records.

Job Description

  • Assisting Occupational Therapist: Collaborate with the Occupational Therapist to provide direct patient care in accordance with the prescribed treatment plan and goals. Contribute to treatment sessions, therapy interventions, and progress assessments.
  • Inpatient Rehab: Work in inpatient rehab setting to address patients' needs and facilitate their recovery and functional independence. May also work in acute rehab and/or outpatient based on organizational needs and with appropriate onboarding.
  • Data Collection: Assist in gathering relevant patient information, documenting progress, and maintaining organized records to support treatment planning and decision-making.
  • Mobility Screens: Conduct mobility screenings to assess patients' physical capabilities and identify areas that require focused intervention.
  • Mobility Support: Provide mobility support and training to patients, including assistance with transferring, walking, and using mobility aids, to enhance their independence and safety.
  • Evaluation Transcription: When required, accurately transcribe evaluations conducted by the Occupational Therapist, ensuring completeness and precision in the documentation.
  • Patient Care: Interact with patients in a compassionate and empathetic manner, fostering a positive therapeutic environment and ensuring their safety and comfort during therapy sessions.
  • Equipment and Environment: Ensure proper setup and maintenance of therapy equipment and treatment areas, promoting a safe and conducive space for therapy activities.
  • Patient Education: Educate patients and their families on appropriate therapeutic activities and exercises to support carry-over of treatment goals outside of therapy sessions.
  • Team Collaboration: Foster a collaborative and team-oriented approach, working closely with other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive patient care and positive treatment outcomes.
  • Compliance and Ethics: Adhere to all legal and ethical standards, maintaining patient confidentiality and following established protocols and policies.
  • Professional Development: Engage in continuous learning and professional development activities to enhance your skills and stay updated on the latest advancements in occupational therapy.
  • Other duties as assigned to include periodic weekend and holiday support.

Additional Job Description

  • Valid certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA).
  • State licensure as required by regulatory bodies.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and fellow team members.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
