Punch Press 800 Ton- Parts Packer
Position Summary
The Parts Packer supports safe, accurate, and efficient production on an 800-ton punch press by inspecting, counting, packaging, and labeling parts according to customer and internal standards. This role works closely with the Press Operator and Production team to maintain flow, protect quality, and ensure proper containerization that meets all specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety requirements, PPE, lockout/tagout rules, and 5S expectations.
- Maintain an organized work area around the press, packing station, and staging zones.
- Report hazards, unsafe conditions, or incidents immediately.
Production & Packing
- Retrieve finished parts from the press and pack them using the correct containers, dunnage, and orientation.
- Perform accurate piece or weigh counting and verify quantities per packaging standards.
- Apply proper labels, tags, and barcodes to containers.
- Stage completed containers for material handling or shipping.
Quality & Documentation
- Perform visual inspection for defects (burrs, deformation, contamination, missing features).
- Separate nonconforming product and notify Press Operator or Supervisor.
- Complete quality checks as assigned and record results on check sheets or Plex.
- Verify accuracy of part numbers, quantities, and lot information on all labels and paperwork.
Teamwork & Communication
- Coordinate with the Press Operator on container changes, scrap handling, and production flow.
- Communicate effectively during shift handoff regarding open containers, quality issues, or packing changes.
- Assist with training new packers as skills develop.
Systems & Housekeeping
- Use ERP (Plex) to verify part/label accuracy.
- Maintain workplace organization through 5S and proper dunnage management.
- Support basic material handling such as moving empty bins or scrap containers (forklift certification may be required in some areas).
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Prior experience in manufacturing, stamping, warehouse, or packing roles preferred.
- Ability to read and follow work instructions, labels, and packaging specifications.
- Basic math skills for counting, weighing, and documentation.
- Ability to accurately identify visual defects and follow quality guidelines.
- Familiarity with basic measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges) is a plus.
- Comfort using barcode scanners and ERP systems; Plex experience is helpful but not required.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and move materials (up to 35–50 lbs) throughout the shift.
- Strong communication, reliability, and teamwork skills.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Ability to work in a very fast paced environment
- Ability to lift at least 25 lbs.
- Must be able to move freely across the production floor.
- Requires physical mobility, independence, and sound judgment.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and reaction time.
- Requires frequent standing, bending, lifting, and walking throughout the shift.
- Exposure to noise, dust, and metal particles in a manufacturing setting.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
- Responsibilities may change based on production needs.
Schedule
- On-Site
- Monday to Friday (Potential for overtime or Saturdays) 6AM–4:30PM
- Sunday to Wednesday (Potential for overtime) 8PM–6AM
