Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the head pathologist, this position will assist with performing necropsies, ordering appropriate tests, and recording findings in the database. This position will also review histology for necropsies and biopsies, and read cytology slides.
- Perform necropsies, order appropriate tests, and record findings in the database.
- Review histology for necropsies as well as biopsies.
- Read cytology slides.
- Rotate with other pathologists in performing rabies testing.
- Participate in after hours and weekend receiving work.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent is required.
- Ability to manipulate large animal carcasses.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, multi-tasking, and organizational skills
- Pleasant, proactive personality with the ability to handle demanding situations, quickly adapt to address changing circumstances and personalities, and work as a team
- Alertness, initiative, memory for verbal and written directions and details, analytical ability.
- Previous experience in a diagnostic lab is preferred.
- This job requires dissecting animals, handling hazardous materials and biological contaminants (e.g. blood), strong pungent odors, and lifting a minimum of 40 lbs.
- This is an on-site position located at the Breathitt Veterinary Center in Hopkinsville, KY that requires occasional after hours on call and weekend duty. Duties during after hours on call and weekend duty will require on site work. Timely responses for on call and weekend duty are required to meet customer needs.
